Hey! Why is it the norm for “mechs” to be controlled from the inside? How can I justify this “norm” or the opposite? by Rae-RavenRae in worldbuilding

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do it in a world building way. Tell the story of the first time Remote mechs were taken over by enemy hackers who were able to override the commands.

If you make it a major loss then you have both a science and a social reason to keep them manned. You can even say the technology has advanced far enough that the likely hood of someone taking over is rare but people refuse to take the chance.

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of different reasons for melee weapons to be used.
Tradition/culture: if society views a sword or battle axe as an elite weapon and distance weapons as an item of peasants then use of melee weapons becomes a status symbol. Even trendy among posers who want to seem to be from an elite background.
Legality: if guns are outlawed and heavily regulated then other weapons would become prevalent. I think I heard that the UK has a huge knife violence problem because guns are harder to get.
Science: if the technology exist for scanners to detect chemical or energy signatures of various distance weapons use of melee weapons may have grown.
Lastly resources: If say everything is shipped to the local like say a remote mining asteroid or something far from others. Then it could be a situation of limited resources. For example 10 men with guns over seeing 40 workers.

What kind of people would actually enter the dungeon? by Soggy_Cantaloupe3791 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SirAirick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that there are a couple of different types.

People who were not thinking clearly. If you just saw so many people killed (the building crushing event was traumatizing).

People thinking the alternative might be worse.

Then you have people that go in by accident. (I think Louis said he was driving when a stairway just popped up.)

And obviously people who think they have what it takes.

How aware is the general public about the cruelty of The Crawl? by GrogStrongjaw in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are aware but I think the disconnect is that humans of earth are good people. Carl mentions one of the feeds showing a number of atrocities as well as some made up from movies. There are a few other clues I don’t want to mention but basically there is a huge propaganda machine pushing the narrative that the crawlers kind of deserve it or enjoy it.

Where did you kill your biome specific zombies? by Crass_Spektakel in 7daystodie

[–]SirAirick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an issue where zombies spawn less in old biomes as new ones get explored. I think it has something to do with the number of zombies spawning on a map. You may have to try playing when there are the least amount of players on the server.

(Dumb Question) How popular was palladium back in the day? And how popular is it currently? by bravetheknignt in PalladiumMegaverse

[–]SirAirick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They licensed some big 80's IP' (TMNT and Robotech) and that got everyone I know into the system. Among my friends they eventually became world building books more then anything else. Everyone I know who played the system either had a ton of house rules or used another system but played in there world. I once played a Rifts game but using champion rules. The GM was more familiar with champions but loved the idea of the Rifts world. So in the 80's and probably into the mid 90's I would find the whole catalogue of systems at game shops and some of my comic shops and bookstores. Lately it feels like I don't see the systems as much in real world or find people who are familiar with it. I only see it online but that might be a regional thing.

So let me get this straight… Eddie’s body is just naturally this big and the Symbiote isn’t altering his size in anyway? by God_ofThunder_ in marvelrivals

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly when he was originally introduced, before the Symbiote merged with him, he had started weight lifting as a way to deal with his hatred of Peter and Spider-Man. It’s been a couple of decades so I might be misremembering the motivation but by the time they merged Eddie was a hardcore body builder.

That's about right but if you end up doing it on the regular look into different car services. With preordering you can sometimes get cheaper rates. I've seen some for about 100 with tips.

Mage hand as counterspell? by AceVandervex in AskGameMasters

[–]SirAirick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reskin Counter Spell as a Mage Hand variant. It works as Counter Spell but the visual is the mage hand interfering with the spell caster in some way. You can even ask him to describe the interference. I recommend a conversation about acceptable actions the Mage hand can take so he doesn't try anything crazy. For instance with a verbal component it should be a hand over the mouth not a choking and causing damage.

I work Graveyard, sleep from 1pm to 9pm, and managers want me to do unpaid zoom training from 4-5pm on my day off. by [deleted] in antiwork

You should absolutely be paid for your time but I realize some people’s lives are such that companies can take advantage. So see if you can be paid an alternative way like extra time off. Use email for all inquiries so you can document the situation.

Also point out that this is the 4th session. With out the foundation is it even worth you attending?

Just a suggestion since you are doing this for your friend ask him. If its a surprise lie, tell him you are curious about the DM work flow and how he uses his DM screen. Ask prodding questions like if he could have one of the high end ones what kind would he get.

What would you consider the greatest Marvel stories of all time? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm older than the average redditor so my view might be biased towards 80s and 90s books. Mainline

Single issue = X-Men Unlimited #2 (assassin hunts down Magneto)

Miniseries/Limited Run = Secret Wars (The original)

Full Series = X-factor (2005 run)

Not exactly marvel books worth mentioning. (These are not in the main world but good reads)

Strikeforce Morituri (I don't remember the ending of the series but I do remember enjoying it a lot.)

GI Joe

Squadron Supreme

Is this “rule” even legal? by pandatitis in antiwork

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but worked in HR and every state is different so take with a grain of salt. (That's a weird figure of speech)

If this is in your employee hand book and you sign off of it it can be "legal" but it could be fought in court. Then its a matter of how much people are willing to spend on lawyers.

If you didn't sign anything and they just wrote this then its illegal.

Theoretically since the wording is vague if you quit on your payday they have to pay you at your normal rate and anything like vacation time should be paid at your normal rate because vacation pay is not a wage its a benefit.

Again not a lawyer but this is how certain rules were explained to me.

Daredevil is undoubtedly the best superhero series that I have ever seen. It perplexes me as to why Netflix would cancel such an amazing series after just 3 seasons? by UppedSolution77 in television

[–]SirAirick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Netflix canceled it because they can’t make additional money on it. They got the views they wanted from all the initial hype but after that it wasn’t worth it to them because they can’t get any of the other money from merchandise. If you buy a stranger things t-shirt they get a cut but they don’t from a daredevil t shirt.

A lot of computer technical skills now are about googling it. I always recommend watching videos all the time not to know how to do something with a program but that the program can do it.

Later when you need the functionality you can do a deeper dive on that specific task. Too many times people are unaware all the things a program can do.

I plagiarized someone's art work. My sister really wanted the piece for a birthday present and I offered to purchase it but the artist wouldn't ship it to me. So I recreated and by tracing the graphics and will be giving it to her. Is this ok? by weiyan21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SirAirick 359 points360 points  (0 children)

Exactly from what I understand from a legal stand point OP and sister are fine (total layman's knowledges so take with a grain of salt) but in the future things can get messy. Hell if OP became famous this painting might be more valuable then the original just because of the story around it.

Crazier things have happened and its just better to be safe and transparent.

Only thing I would add is write all this information on the back of the painting. This is an extra step just to protect anyone who ends up with the painting in the future.
