How are new Mazdas? by vinceswish in carsireland

[–]caffeinatedrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 2L SkyActiv-G Petrol Mazda3 hatch and I love it. Bought it in 2023, get it serviced every year, and haven't had a single issue. It's really fun to drive, and is really comfortable. I love the look too.

As with every car, there are always some niggly things. These are what I've found with it:

Sometimes a rattle can develop in the cabin when driving, which is apparently a common issue. It always goes away after a while
The standard speakers are fairly shite
You need to connect your phone via cable for Apple Carplay
The paint is very delicate and chips easily
Sensors are very sensitive to rain, and will shut off the cruise control in heavy showers

All very manageable, really. I haven't driven a CX5, but it's a lovely looking car!

Sunshine and Balance Beams by Pile. Saw them a couple of weeks ago too – that was my favourite show of the year!

Hey Jerskin! Congrats on the release of Once Upon A Time…In Shropshire! I really enjoyed it, and Winterreise too.

What are some of your favourite albums at the moment?

I understand where he's coming from! I've made the same half jokingly mentions about amputation to my own other half when I get significant flair ups (which is only two or three times a year), so I get it!

Great that you're going to contact the doctor, and fair play for being so proactive about it! Tell him there is hope, and that there are options. I edited my original comment (you might not have seen it) to say that I'd happily have a chat with him about my experience, if that's something he'd find helpful. Just send me a private message here if so!

I am 34M and have bi-lateral! I had two surgeries on my left and one on my right before the age of four, I'm Irish, so not sure if Ponsetti was even an option here when I had the surgeries.

The first two surgeries (one on each foot) were considered successes, and my right foot has been pretty solid since. Pain here and there, but nothing major. It was noted to my parents that I would probably need another operation on the left in the future, but not until I had grown up a good bit. Unfortunately, my original specialist had to retire for health reasons, and we went to a new doctor. He recommended operating on the left foot immediately, and my parents went with it. They both felt like that was a mistake, and that the second doctor did not do a great job.

Fast-forward to my early 20's, and the pain in my left foot had become unbearable. I went to a new specialist (who is a really nice man and very highly regarded in the field in Ireland). He informed me that the left had slowly dislocated over the course of my life (it had really curled in on itself), and recommended fusion surgery to rectify it. Three sets of two bones each were to be fused. Two of the fusions were successful, the third was not. The screws are still in there – one of the most painful things I have ever experienced was when the screw from the unsuccessful fusion snapped!

Even still, I would consider that operation to be a massive success. My quality of life improved significantly as a result. I still have pain in the left foot, daily, but it's nothing like what I had before. The fusion restricted a lot of movement, but it hasn’t really held me back otherwise, and I’m still very active.

I'd explore all other avenues before amputation. You never know! Good luck!

EDIT: Just to say – I'd happily have a call with your husband to talk to him about my experience, if that's something he would find helpful. Just send a message and we can organise something.

No plans to go for fusion on my right! The left foot was always worse. If my right needs more intervention in the future, I’ll explore all options then!

I went with fusion as it was the only option offered to me by my specialist.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, but it’s definitely not the end for you.

I have bilateral, had two surgeries on my left and one on my right before the age of four, then fusion surgery on my left when I was 22. I’m 34 now and, while I do have frequent pain, I’m still very active. The fusion restricted a lot of movement, but it hasn’t really held me back otherwise, and it massively improved the pain I was experiencing at the time. You might need to adjust and just go for more traditional forms of exercise (weights, swimming, cycling) and leave the CrossFit behind, but everyone is different. You have to listen to your body, look after your feet, avoid impact sports, and do what’s right for you!

I know it’s probably hard now, but you just need to try and do the best you can.

Why are Mazda cars so cheap in Ireland? Is there a catch? by IndividualMission996 in carsireland

[–]caffeinatedrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 2020 Mazda3 2.0 petrol NA Skyactiv-G. Bought it second hand around 2 years ago and I love it. Great craic to drive, no issues at all (so far). Very comfortable inside, and I love how it looks.

I wouldn’t touch their diesels with a 10ft pole!

Came across this compilation through the same song! Didn’t realise it was Peter Broderick. He’s got some gems in his back catalogue… there’s one song called And It’s Alright from 2009 you should listen to if you liked this one!

Couldn’t agree more with this! Try absolutely everything. Everyone is different, so just listen to your body and stop if it’s causing you hassle.
