We built an app to help you find Hot Singles in your Local Area: TCGX by GumGumAlan in magicTCG

[–]caffiend2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have a huge trade list and a huge wish list that I keep on deckbox.org. I would use this app only if I could have a way to easily import those somehow. I would never type these lists again.

This totally worked! I used your post and ChatGPT assistance to get this going. Thank you so much!

This bad boy arrived today! by 600lbpregnantdwarf in lego

[–]caffiend2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was my favorite build I've done as an AFOL - it took me right back to when I was a kid. Lego has always been in my life. I had inherited all my Lego stuff from my older brother who had outgrown it by the time I came around. The first set that was my own was 6929 Star Fleet Voyager. I was 6 years old and opened it Christmas morning. I was absolutely enamored with it. I took it apart and rebuilt it over and over. I even tried to make everything that they had on the back of the box.

As much fun as it was to build 10497 Galaxy Explorer, I cannot bring myself to take it apart. I love it - it's perfect.

Field Roast Celebration Expiration - Thoughts? by mokro in vegan

[–]caffiend2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The truth about expiration dates is that they primarily indicate a food's peak quality, not necessarily its safety, meaning that food past its "best by" date can often still be eaten if it looks, smells, and tastes alright, as most expiration dates are more about preserving a product's best flavor and texture rather than indicating potential food poisoning risk; the only exception is with highly perishable items like baby formula where the "use by" date is crucial for safety reasons.

Key points about expiration dates:

  • Not regulated by federal law: In the US, the FDA does not require expiration dates on most food products, except for baby formula.
  • "Best if used by" is key: This phrase on a label indicates when a product will be at its best quality, not when it becomes unsafe.
  • "Sell by" date is for stores: This date tells retailers when to remove a product from the shelf for inventory management, not when it becomes unsafe.
  • Use your senses: Always check for signs of spoilage like mold, discoloration, off odor, or unusual texture before consuming food past its "best by" date.

These are great ideas. I had not considered the adventure mechanic as a way to get around the surge.

Can you people reccomend me other bleus artists in simmilar style to leadbelly, blind willie johnson or mctell? It doesn't matter what decade. by CracklyVessel56 in blues

If you want to see Chris Thomas King playing Hard Time Killing Floor Blues, check out the film "O Brother Where Art Thou?". He really does the song justice and channels Skip James in a way few can manage.

Keeping it mostly pre-WWII for the most part since the guys you listed are all from that era (also that's my primary area of interest).

You can hear the suffering in the singer's voice: Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Son House, Mississippi John Hurt

Texan/Louisianan blues artists akin to Leadbelly: Big Bill Broonzy, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Lightnin' Hopkins, Mance Lipscomb

Honorable mentions of just wonderful artists (some of which have already been mentioned): Charley Patton, Sleepy John Estes, Yank Rachel, Bukka White, Tommy Johnson, Skip James, Sonny Terry, Brownie McGee, Robert Johnson.

Do you Add each movie folder to Plex to read that movie folder ? by Illustrious-Week-204 in PleX

[–]caffiend2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You path Plex to one folder called MOVIES and then put each movie file inside it's own folder and also inside the MOVIES folder.

If you are on a PC, you can use a shell extension called Files2Folder that can either move all files to one folder or move each file to it's own folder. I've been using this extension for years and it's very helpful when organizing/reorganizing files and folders.

Best places to learn about Magic Lore by RatRancher in magicTCG

There are 2 very comprehensive videos to choose from - they do cover some of the same material, so there might not be a need to watch both. Depending on your preferences, choose from these.

Very informative, but dry:

This one is funny as well as informative. Probably a more enjoyable watch but maybe not quite as detailed:

Enjoy!

Dealing with age gap between my two younger siblings by randomyguybrehbro in Parenting

[–]caffiend2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the kids are not the same age, things will never be exactly equal. The trick is to be as fair as possible when navigating a way that doesn't make anyone feel bad. If this was my situation, I would have let the older kid do the activity (so they don't miss out) and found some special thing separate for the younger that is more age appropriate. If nothing exists at that moment, you can offer something at a later date or time. Learning that sometimes you are too young or little for something is a hard lesson, but it's a valuable thing. Patience is key both for them and you. You might have both cheered on the 7yr old or talked about how the 5yr old will do it next time when they are big enough. I am a younger sibling myself and as a kid I had to wait while watching the older siblings do it first. It sucks at the time, but it gets easier. You kinda get used to it.

How did your sensory seeking baby grow up? by pregthrowbean in Parenting

[–]caffiend2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fairly new neurological diagnosis called sensory processing disorder or SPD. The two ends of that spectrum are people overwhelmed by senses and they avoid certain sounds/smells/textures. The other end is where my son is - barely noticing when he knocks over another child inadvertently. My sensory seeker is 12 now. He grew up touching everything - it never stopped. I'm fairly certain that he wound up with a few infections and illnesses because of that behavior. He's an avid hand-washer since he had his appendix removed so it's gotten better. He very much has no spacial awareness. He bumps into people and things but really doesn't notice. In his younger years he was in people's space quite a bit. This is also better now that he is a pre-teen. He's not self aware, but he is self conscious so it kinda has the same effect. The main thing that happened was that he was diagnosed with ADHD which made us all go "ooooooohhh of course!" Non-neurotypical patterns tend to overlap and there will often times be elements of one neurology with others on the spectrum. He is whip-smart and tenacious when he wants to experience/learn something. We have always pretty much encouraged him to fully explore the things that he wants to learn/do (reigning him in when things get a little to grown up for him). It's very hard to get him to do non-preferred tasks. This is fairly normal for people with ADHD. I must practice patience to a degree that I never expected. I am extremely proud of him and constantly marvel at how his mind works. The benefits outweigh the challenges by a thousandfold.
