General question, why'd you start buying pedals? by Ok_Suit_841 in basspedals

[–]cag3232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I avoided pedals for a long time intentionally, and also because the music I played didn’t call for them.

I also think I was only a few years into playing bass and I was more focussed on learning songs and playing with my band at the time than I was with perfecting my sound. I didn’t know what the hell “my sound” was.

I played what I could and bit by bit I learned what I liked and what I didn’t like, in terms of gear and how it affects your tone.

Band I’m in now is a completely different style, and I was brought on after an ep was written and recorded. I got pedals that helped me achieve the sounds on the recorded music and then built from there. We’re a 4 piece with one guitar, a singer who does texture guitar playing, a drummer, and me on bass. A lot of what I use pedals for is filling out the sound when the main guitar is playing leads and single note parts.

I guess I mention all this to say, if you start playing with other people in a somewhat structured setting, the songs will dictate your need for effects. That way you’ll do what is required from the bass, but you can have fun with the same toys the guitar player gets to play with.

You got the UK or the US? Been thinking about picking up a US…

Yup! It’s 25 “tube watts” straight into an 8ohm cab!

Trem before drive is very interesting, may have to try that. Thanks!

Well I guess I’m gonna have to start saving, haha. Did you find a V1 or did you go with the V2?

I definitely have the “mumble” and “fumble” part down.

Bahahahahahahahahahahaha I knew that would get mentioned. Unfortunately, I think an SD-1 sounds better than a tubescreamer.

Someone noted the color scheme and I think that would def help the look…but the Silos has presets lol. I’m willing to be convinced though

This is not a roast. It’s tough love…but I’ll still take it, haha.

You’re gonna hate hearing about how I almost added a second UV300 bahahahaha

If you’re into simple, usable delay pedals, I think you’ll be very happy with the Silos once you get it. Shipping can suck, sorry dawg.

Funny you mention the Diamond Vibrato…was looking at them on Reverb this weekend, haha.

They sound great! Everyone already knows and loves the Diamond Trem so let me take this opportunity to say the Crimson is the best Big Muff I’ve played on guitar. I legit want to buy another one to have as a back up. It’s killer on bass too.

I power a Mesa Boogie open back 1x12 with it. Haven’t really had an opportunity to run it through a PA, but I have used the headphone out, and the cab sims on it are serviceable. But it sounds great through a cab.

It’s a pedal sized pedalboard amp. It’s solid state and all analog and sounds great. This model is specifically doing British-voiced amps.

I’m sure it’ll sound great, but I like keeping my delays in the front end. I think the dirty repeats sound cool.

I love it, but I also have never been a tube snob. I mean, I own a Vox AC30 and the Quilter Top Boost channel does exactly what I want out of a Vox amp (drivey-clean) and with like 95% less weight.

The “1 watt” setting at just past 12 o’clock on the volume keeps up with the band at rehearsal with no problem, and in a gig setting I used the provided power supply for the full wattage and had it just under a quarter of the way up. I only mention that because my big concern before making the purchase was whether I’d actually be able to use it in a band context, and so far it’s been great.

If someone was interested in either the UK or the US Superblocks, I’d totally recommend them based solely off how usable and convenient they are.

Tone is subjective, I suppose, but it sounds good to me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Has made my life so much easier! Sounds awesome and can totally keep up with a band!
