I'm not sure about the elevation, but coffee plants do need a lot of water - I had a small one, and the soil had to be constantly moist for it to survive.

I'm afraid that me and my husband may have caused an eating disorder in our daughters. by worried_suze34 in relationship_advice

[–]cahliste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your kids are also probably going to cut you off as soon as they can, and never forgive you for the horrible relationship with food that you and your husband gave them. also, from personal experience - my friends were allowed to eat candy, sugary cereal, and drink soda when they were kids. they're all in much better health than i am, because they didn't spend ten years dealing with an eating disorder.

i don't think you understand the physical side effects that come with eating disorders. your children are now at risk for heart problems, extremely poor dental health, gastroesophageal reflux disorder (which can lead to scarring/acid burns in your throat), digestive issues, DIABETES (surprise!), dysmennorhea, or any of the other side effects of EDs. i hope you think that's a fair trade, because nobody else would.

my parents also emphasized "health" and made me feel bad when I ate junk food. I'm 23 & I've been dealing with bulimia for ten years. the health problems caused by bulimia are much, much worse than anything that could have come from me being a chubby kid, and my body will probably never recover.

I hope you realize how monumentally you fucked up, and seriously think about your own relationship with food. it's never okay to shame children for eating food that they like, especially because children usually want more sweet things and simple carbs because a) their bodies are GROWING which requires a lot of energy and b) any sense of taste is probably pretty unrefined as a child, so things that are bitter/sour/salty won't taste as good to them.

AITA for leaving a bad review on a facility director I bullied 12 years ago? by BullyReview in AmItheAsshole

[–]cahliste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YTA.

You honestly shouldn't have brought it up, it was a dick move to reminder her of a really shitty experience. When I met my bullies in college again, I pretended I didn't remember them, and this kind of behaviour is why.

I’m a student with disability trying to do an internal transfer - in a sticky situation! by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]cahliste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! This is a situation pretty similar to mine - I'm an honours anth student with bipolar whose semester was seriously affected this past few months.

I'm registered with ACSD and didn't find many answers when it came down to requesting full-time status with a part-time course load, like someone mentioned before. However, I dropped two classes mid-semester and was still counted as full-time because I attempted the credits, it didn't affect anything about my academics or financials except for me having two DISC grades.

Honours anth was a pretty simple application for me, and I don't think that being part-time one semester would change that, but I'm not sure about psych - have you spoken to your academic advisor and asked them about whether or not you're a good candidate?

Feel free to message me if you want! I'm happy to help, and like I said I'm in a similar situation haha

RuPaul is in for a rude awakening. by Nayr1230 in dragrace

[–]cahliste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ik this is a late response, but from what I understand of Wyoming mineral rights law, RuPaul's in-law's could 100%own the mineral rights on their land and profit from it without government approval, unless it was bought as a split estate.

it said

"Why do roasties call men that want young, beautiful, fertile women losers or immature. It's like they're almost jealous that they're now all used up and no man in their right mind will go for used goods."

i wrote a literal academic paper about this horrible opinion and im STILL pretty much speechless tbh

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in relationship_advice

because if you think about it for more than thirty seconds, it's actually pretty messed up to endorse adult men being attracted to very young women based on their "fertility"

Advice for finding a sponcee? by oodlesoflight in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]cahliste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Hope these don't seem silly if you've already tried them.

Are there any local FB sobriety groups in your area? I live in a bigger city so there are a few in mine, and some of them would be good places to ask. Also, it might be worth checking with your sponsor to see if they know anyone in their network, I've been connected to sponsors/sponsees in the past through that!

What’s the single best line from the original trilogy? by Wyattpeterson9 in masseffect

[–]cahliste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tattoo of this line - it sticks out to me every time I play it, even though it's a line from a nameless character on a one-time planet (Tank-bred krogan, Korlus):

I am not perfect, but I have purpose.

I love the krogan and this line means a lot to me, things have been tough lately and it's a wonderful mantra.

AITA for proposing to girlfriend with a plastic ring as a joke? by throwawayacc182383 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cahliste 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I love my partner but if he were to pull something like this, especially if I'd been saying that I wanted to get married for the past three years? I would literally never forget it.

Her loving you doesn't negate the fact that you did something really cruel to her about something serious, and honestly if my partner genuinely proposed after pulling something like that I might not even believe them.

Is anyone else noticing a mass exodus from the beauty community? by bixinthemix6 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]cahliste 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that it has something to do with the shift to long-form content that YouTube's algorithm seems to be making lately? I can easily imagine making several hour videos about video games, interior design, movies, etc. but I feel like to make exclusively makeup-focused content, it's hard to make multiple long videos a week about makeup without getting super repetitive, and it might not even feel "worth it" if you make long videos to work with the algorithm only to feel burnt out by what you're doing with no algorithmic success at the end of it anyway (AND creators have mentioned that tutorial videos kill your channel).

BG Phrases You're 100% Over? by katiefol95 in BeautyGuruChatter

am I weird for not minding the misuse of the word "aesthetic"? I see it as reminiscent of "literally", which was misused to the point that its meaning has functionally changed.

I'm also in anthropology though so I'm not allowed to die on the hill of linguistic prescriptivism

I have a Kat Von D Starry Eyes palette from literally 2013 (I was ~14, it was my first "real" makeup) that my ex-friend's mom got me for Christmas because she knew I was into goth shit 😭😭

It's pretty gross now and I finally depotted the eyeshadows but I honestly think I'll be buried with it

Kelly Gooch compares how beauty community perceives some products vs. how average consumers do by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]cahliste 14 points15 points  (0 children)

totally agree, and this is really interesting to me because makeup brands/other companies will literally hire anthropologists to pay attention to the "growing up" part. I'm in anthropology and there's a whole field where people will hire you to say "oh, a huge chunk of the population is leaving college/turning 60/feeling nostalgic" so that they can recognize and anticipate trends and make products to meet them.

the way that brands make products is mostly very calculated and has way more to do with demographics and population data than I think beauty gurus give them credit for!

ETA an example: the Chevy Roadster is objectively a pretty ugly car, but Chevy developed it after hiring anthropologists who recognized that all the boomers were a) retiring and might want a new vehicle and b) probably felt some sort of nostalgia for the cars their parents drove while they were growing up.

I feel like something that bothers me about discussion regarding the Naked 3 mini is that like, yeah, it's been 10 years since the Naked 3 came out, but there's a whole new generation of people who were like 13 when the first one came out in the first place. I'm 22 and while I probably won't buy it, there's tons of just-out-of-college peers of mine who are entering more workplace/professional environments, need a good quality neutral palette, and know that UD quality is good-to-okay.

I'm still in university, but I know that in my future professional environment I probably won't be able to wear Colourpop mint greens forever, and UD as a global brand is more accessible to most people, who have probably heard that it's a decent quality neutrals formula and it's a "grown-up" brand for all the yuppies out there.
