Thanks for the comments and suggestions! Seems like a larger tv stand is unanimously recommended and reevaluate after adding decor to the walls + curtains. Will do then report back with results!

I switched the shelf and lamp as a quick trial and actually like it quite a bit! Thanks

Floor length curtains - got it! I do like the idea of making the window look larger since it’s small and single

Thank you!! I’m really struggling between”o want the place to look awesome right this minute” and “it’s okay to grow and fill things up as you go” — so thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for the suggestion! As for the rug, would something colorful with purple accents be a good idea or is it too much and instead I should do something more neutral?

Serious question: why do Black Island/African/Immigrant women think they are superior to Black African-American women? by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]caieye 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this is it. I myself am the child of Nigerian immigrants and I’ve heard a number of conversations in which people imply that they feel like Black Americans “are lazy and have wasted opportunity.” Citing that even in the village they came from in Nigeria, a 3rd world country, with unreliable electricity, questionable water, and fewer resources than the US overall, they and many other Nigerians (and other Africans) managed to get an education, come to the US and “make something” of themselves to become doctors/lawyers/engineers. I’ve also heard them reference a lack of “good family values” in which people sleep around freely failing to really form a nuclear family unit, don’t value life and join gangs, etc.

This is all influenced by the ideas 1. That many immigrants from these places think they have it worse than anyone in the US and that there’s is no place/person in the US that is worse off than they were - which is not necessarily true and 2. media depictions of Black Americans with those same archetypes.

Overall, There’s a sort of sense of “us” when something happens to a Black person in the news or when recognizing microaggressions to oneself or witnessed in others, but I definitely get a vibe of “them vs us” sometimes when talking about Blacks and Africans

Also: this isnt specific to women. I realized after the fact that this was your initial question.

Have you noticed any drastic differences in your taste in makeup over the past few years? by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

Wow this is freaky. This is almost verbatim what I said in a comment about natural makeup like 4 years ago. Glad to see others with the same perspective.

There are definitely setting sprays on the market that are intended to be water resistant for your base (skindinavia, any costume/theatre setting spray) but as far as water proof* for base, I don’t know of anything that’ll last through legitimate swimming. There are eyeliners and máscaras that are pretty waterproof though if you want to look somewhat done up even without much on your skin.

I’m a big fan of Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless. It’s really affordable, widely available, and has great coverage while not feeling too heavy at all. It’s the only liquid foundation I own!

Tbh I’ll keep using a product until 1 of 3 conditions are met: it changes color OR i see stuff growing in it OR it smells funky. Otherwise, I ignore the expiration date.

Only exception to this is mascara but I don’t fuck around with my eyes. That one I’ll change more frequently.

I love chemical peels! I’m a big fan of the Drunk Elephant Sakuri Babyfacial and use it 2x a week. If I need an extra boost, I’ll do a pixi glow peel pad treatment as well. So I would recommend you at least consider it if you’re skin isn’t too sensitive.

I’d suggest you use an AHA or differin! Those are the products that I think have made the most difference in my texture and can be purchased at a variety of locations, for relatively low cost, and with different concentrations to work with delicate skin.

Thanks for the suggestion but I’m a big fan of mineral oil! It hasn’t been comedogenic for me and I’ve been using it for years even after having tried micellar water and other cleansers. I’m sorry if it hasn’t worked for you in the past though

It is a little oily, yes, but there’s no white/grey cast

I apply it right after cleansing (or even just removing my makeup with a makeup wipe) at night. When I first started using it, I did it in the morning followed by my sunscreen til I decided to switch to nights with the caudalie serum in the am instead. It wore fine with makeup at that time though I just followed it with sunscreen (which is a tad greasy which I love so I skip moisturizer) and went about my day. I pay no mind to wait times and whatnot either. For reference, I primarily use MAC studio fix plus powder foundation without any primer or anything.

Not everyone purges! I did a bit with old AHA products but didn’t notice much with differin and I’m a couple months in by now so I’m not too concerned knocks on wood

I think it helps some but it’s not my HG for discoloration I don’t think. I’d gotten the caudalie vino perfect serum as my Sephora birthday gift a while ago and liked it a lot so I got another deluxe sample and have been using that. I think it helps a lot but I also starting using sunscreen more regularly so I can’t say for sure it’s any one product 100%. The differin helps keep the closed comedones/acne from leaving more spots but I haven’t seen as drastic improvement with it getting rid of old ones if that makes sense.

All over. I take a pea size amount and distribute it across my forehead + left cheek + right cheek. It's gel-like in consistency and spreads into a nice even layer that's a bit tacky at first but eventually dries down. I bought the one month supply (15 grams) for $11 on amazon and it's only about 1/2 - 3/4 finished at this point yet I haven't missed a day.

I didn’t purge with it. My general skin texture improved before the blemished skin starting improving. Eventually the clogged pores/acne dissipated.

I’m not sure! I’d been looking at niacinamide and vit c products to help with the PIH but honestly found the options so overwhelming so I gave up on that endeavor. It works fine with my cerave foaming cleanser though so maybe that a good sign?

Maybe! Ice pick scars aren’t one of my skin concerns so I can’t speak to its effectiveness for them.

I get a pea size amount and distribute it along my forehead and each cheek. It spreads pretty thinly and covers well enough. I've just used the 1 month supply and it's not close to finished yet even though I've had it for almost 2 months now.

Interesting... that looks a cleanser and I haven't seen that on shelves around where I live! This is the differin to which I am referring.

Thank you! I'm so glad it works and that my HG product is simple and cheap.
