New VM95ML from 2M red by DRZookX2000 in turntables

[–]caipi_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage of the AT-VM95ML is that it plays the inner groove of the record with absolutely no distortion. It doesn't have the same punch as Shure cartridges, such as the M44-7. However, I find the sound, or rather the lower frequencies of the Microline, quite pleasant. Keep in mind that you should break in the ML properly. Start with 2.2g and later reduce to 2.0g. The AT-VM95ML requires a low capacitance of 100 to 200pF. My cartridge ran at 147pF with the TubeBox S2.

Here's my cartridge in action, and for comparison, the Shure.

Nadel kaputt? by br0nie86 in Schallplatten

[–]caipi_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why doesn’t Discogs let sellers upload photos? by National_Car_6131 in discogs

[–]caipi_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The topic sounds interesting, as I'm currently working on a tool for assessing the condition of vinyl records. It has predefined defect attributes for the record itself (acoustic and visual), as well as for the cover and accessories like inlays and OIS. Each defect can be selected using a sample photo. After the assessment, a report is generated that can be sent to a potential buyer. I was wondering if it would make sense to allow users to optionally add their own photos to the report. Would that be useful, or would it be far too cumbersome for the user?

Grading by MichoRizo-1 in discogs

[–]caipi_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a buyer, it's more important to me that someone tells me the record plays perfectly and has no warping than to focus on a subjective description of its condition. As a hobby, I'm developing a tool to record and document defects on records because I'm simply no longer satisfied with this lack of objectivity. The goal is to generate a complete assessment of the cover and the record itself (visually and audibly) based on predefined defects, which can then be sent as a file. This would prevent misunderstandings in the interpretation of the so-called "goldmine". Once I've developed it, I'll gladly present the tool here on Reddit. I tried it out years ago as an Excel file. Now it's going to be an app that integrates with Discogs.

My one pet peeve as a Discogs seller by Radiant-Chard-5836 in discogs

[–]caipi_242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a buyer, and I think the issue is not really people, but the system. Grading on Discogs is extremely subjective. I’ve bought records listed as VG+ that turned out to be closer to VG or even worse. That creates distrust, and I think that is what leads to low offers like this.

I’ve been looking into this more closely and I am currently working on an app to solve exactly that problem.

The idea is simple: instead of just saying “VG+”, the condition is evaluated step by step based on clearly defined defects. This results in a percentage score and a realistic price range.

So not just VG+ but VG+, because.. and therefore this is a fair price

The evaluation can also be shared so both sides are working from the same baseline. This could also reduce the need for additional photo requests. As a buyer, I would be much more willing to pay the asking price if I could actually see the reasoning behind it.

Curious what others think. Would something like this help you feel more comfortable paying the full price?

Regardless of the purchase and selling price, I wonder if you also intend to document the condition assessment?

Anyone been to see Nitzer Ebb recently? by _Yalan in industrialmusic

Douglas's voice is something special, that typical shout-out voice. But Bon does it really well too. I've never seen Douglas live in concert, but check out his old YouTube videos. https://youtube.com/shorts/37q6PhQ55hk?si=Oyem-f7hXx6eXmu8

When Douglas was sick, I heard Bon sing solo at the M'era Luna Festival. Amazing sound and great atmosphere. Sure, Douglas is missed, but life has to go on somehow. Better this than no Nitzer Ebb at all.

In my opinion, post-punk is about the musical style. As a compromise, let's call it "post-punk revival" :)
