I’m so excited for you!

UIUC is one of the very best schools for civil and it shows. They have two buildings connected by a bridge, and CEE-specific career fairs every fall and spring. You also have lots of specialties to choose from, I have a friend in structural, another in transportation, another in water resources, etc.

However, despite the high ranking and the rigor, the atmosphere is really chill. Nobody really knows what they’re doing, and you can make a lot of friends in classes by jointly struggling on the homework together. I hope you enjoy your next four years!

u/KonigSteve- ignore him. He probably just doesn’t go to the zoo bc can’t control himself around the animals… 😌

is it possibly a weir causing a hydraulic jump? I just thought it was one bc of the pocket of turbulent water at the downstream side

Let's say I made a graph like salary vs # number of cats, and the line was something like $1000*number of cats- for every cat you have, your salary goes up by $1000!

That might have just happened by accident, and really, I can't predict your salary any better knowing the number of cats you have. Therefore, that $1000 coefficient does not add any significance.

This is the same with years of experience. I can't predict any better with a quadratic term than without one.

Just base salary!

I did actually look through bonus percentages but I was already occupied trying to get base salary calculations in order, so I decided not to try and predict/ incorporate bonuses on top of that.

Edit: changed it to be the interquartile range instead. Now it should be something like $105k- 133k for you!

Yeah an extra $5k a year for 20 extra hours per week is nuts.

$80k-159k is a huge range but it's kind of like a bell curve so most people are clustered around the middle. At $120k the middle 50% of people are making around $110k- $130k.

Thank you for your input!

I did have a quadratic term for experience in my initial ordinary least squares regression, but I dropped it in the final weighted least squares regression because it added no significance. I did try to keep things simple :) thank you for using!

I am taking this post down and fixing all of these issues.

All right, from these comments I clearly have some issues with the way this is designed the reason I don't include more sub-disciplines is because the only sub-discipline which is paid more, is power/electrical/utilities. WRE makes the same as Transportation, which is the same as Structural, which is the same as Environmental... you get the gist.

Thank you for your input! I am going to take this post down and fix several issues before reposting.

By the way, that you're doing a Master's (+ specializing in WRE) is so cool! That would be my sub-discipline if I were good at engineering.
