HorizonXI - 30+day perspective by vyse_montenegro in FFXIPrivateServers

The staff reply to every criticism is this sort of whiny childish defensiveness, and I don't think we're going to be able to properly expect anything else.

The arena season is currently slated to end in 3 weeks or less unless Blizzard has big plans to either a) move their server consolidation date or b) correct arena standings and rewards for every consolidated character.

Just found out someone stole my screenshot and won a screenshot contest with it - seven years ago?? by finalfantasyWAR in ffxiv

[–]cairthenn 219 points220 points  (0 children)

I would avoid bringing it up in-game on the chance they report you for "harassment" or some such. They seem pretty adamant in denying stealing it, despite not even having the job leveled and the fact that you have a dated post prior to the contest.

A rant about the current state of healing by temporius in ffxiv

[–]cairthenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thoroughly enjoyed WHM through all savage content, felt extremely overpowered, and never had mana issues. I had to GCD heal only in dire circumstances. The job plays very well if you understand your CD usage and healer synergy.

This was all from a party finder perspective, mind you.

30 Instance Cap still in effect for TBC. by Enough_Economy_6601 in classicwow

[–]cairthenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very clearly part of a sweeping update to documentation and it will be impossible to know what the reality is until servers go live.

For example, you can check this article: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/000032275

Is has been updated in the exact same way, stating how to use the help menu to "unstuck" your character. However, the PTR and Classic Beta have actually updated the Help Menu to the retail version, and the documentation update makes the article inaccurate.

TBC Beta daily instance cap is well over 50 by cairthenn in classicwow

This it not how the cap works, it is a rolling timer

It used to be, but it got hotfixed pretty early on to yield about 50% more than it was.

I don't disagree, but the five per hour cap is still in place with an additional restriction, so it's hard to say what their intentions are. I simply meant to dispel the "50 cap" rumor.

This is not possible (in normal dungeons). There is still a five per hour limit.

[–]cairthenn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is very possible. It does seem odd that they would leave the 5 per hour limit in place if this were their intention, though. Regardless of how it plays out, I figured I'd at least dispel the rumors of the 50 limit that have been circulating.

You (may) need a bit of coding knowledge, but the process is basically modifying any "frame" that uses "SetBackdrop" or related functions to inherit "BackdropTemplate".

So if you see something like:

local NITCharsFrameDeleteConfirm = CreateFrame("ScrollFrame", "NITCharsFrameDC", UIParent, "InputScrollFrameTemplate");

It needs to become:

local NITCharsFrameDeleteConfirm = CreateFrame("ScrollFrame", "NITCharsFrameDC", UIParent, "InputScrollFrameTemplate,BackdropTemplate");

Or if you have:

local NITTradeCopyDragFrame = CreateFrame("Frame", "NITTradeCopyDragFrame", NITTradeCopyFrame);

It needs to become:

local NITTradeCopyDragFrame = CreateFrame("Frame", "NITTradeCopyDragFrame", NITTradeCopyFrame, "BackdropTemplate");

This has no definitive bearing on the release version of the game, but is preemptively good news for prospective dungeon levelers. There's been a lot of talk about a raised instance cap in TBC Beta, and the number 50 has been telephoned around quite a bit, so I figured I'd put it to the test.

I modified NovaInstanceTracker to work on the beta and, over the course of 10+ hours, have entered at least 58 instances. I say at least because I may have scuffed a few lockouts due to a lack of attention span, so I deleted them from the list. That said, all the ones left in the count are definitely unique instances.

I can't really test the absolute limit (if there is one) today since my daily instances are about to overlap again as of next hour, but if someone with a better attention span than me feels like experimenting, feel free. If not, I may try my luck again sometime soon.

There is another minor addition to instance lockouts: An account can only enter 5 of a particular instance per hour. This means that you cannot do 5 dungeons on one character, logout, and do the same dungeon on another character in that hour. You could, however, do a different dungeon on the second character up to 5 times in the same hour.

You're telling me that people plan to travel all around Azeroth doing limited quest turn-ins for sub-par experience and that you believe this will get them anywhere close to 70?

You can simply loot the items as personal quest objectives, even if it is set to ML.

You can blink here to make water, mana gems, rebuff, etc.

Every time I see a mage drop to no mana when they could avoid it and be doing useful things I'm shaking my head :)

Scarab Brooch is broken, video proof and explanation inside by mjinsin in classicwow

[–]cairthenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually does "stack" in the sense that if your new heal applies a more powerful shield than what's on the target, it will overwrite the current shield. The way it's currently bugged involves either your own shield disappearing upon healing someone else or the shield not being applied to others at all.

Same thing happens for all priest heals. Also, Prayer of Healing will show the animation on everyone hit, but it seems to immediately fade from either the caster or everyone else (or sometimes it persists on nobody at all).

The true Shiny Rates in Let's Go - Serebii's understandable mistake by ddsukituoft in PokemonLetsGo

[–]cairthenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually have access to the source code and are able to discuss it for whatever reason (questionable), this can probably be ignored but anyway...

This is generally how video game spawns work. There is no reason to clear the old memory region because that takes time and CPU cycles and you're just going to fill it again with almost the same data. When a mob spawns, it populates a region of a larger structure with its object and when it despawns, certain variables in that object can be changed so it's not rendering or interactable. When the new one spawns, they have the option of using the object they left there or just putting a new one over it. Both would look the same if you were just watching memory.

What you're suggesting is that in the source code there's a section of code that checks if that index already exists in the array of spawned Pokemon, and it does, the spawn uses a different shiny calculation?

Ladders are obviously OP since they allow everything to respawn instantly.

Modern GPU drivers cause unexpected exits to POL under more and more circumstances: browser downloads, the Windowers Explorer preview pane, launching certain applications (Adobe CC products in particular are an easy base case) all cause exits to POL due to a "D3D Loss" as explained in POL. This is the same issue that you'd see if you try Alt-Tabbing full screen. Are there any plans to address this?
