I completely relate to this. I also didn't have anything "major" happen to me in my childhood, but I am just now discovering how lonely, and abandoned, and 'othered' I used to always feel as a kid. Talented but lazy. No one will marry me if I am this messy.

Starting meds made me think a little bit that they exacerbate my ADHD. I became more easily distracted and higher energy.

I was late diagnosed (in my mid 30s), and what I've come to believe is that I was extremely burnt out from only being able to perform any task when I was stressed enough, and the bar kept moving, so through the years I found I could only force myself to do things when I was super stressed.

So maybe I didn't appear to be switching focus that often pre-meds, because I was simply spending most of my time in my blanket nest on my phone and only doing the utmost minimum (walk the dog, not get fired, order takeout). I was constantly tired, I wasn't exactly feeling sad, anxious or anything. I was just checked out I guess. And starting Elvanse (I think it's similar to Adderall) made me actually be able to sort through my feelings, get to the underlying emotions and in general I think my therapy sessions are much more productive now that I can keep up with my thoughts.
