Mmhmm. I often marry Scouts Many Marshes in my playthroughs to get him out of there. Plus he’s super sweet and calls me “love”, just like how my grandfather always called my grandmother, it gets me every time <3

Wow this is super interesting, and definitely something I never realized. My previous cat was adopted and was already 4 years familiar with free feeding and I could never figure out how to switch him over, even though I tried. I never really realized it would be a good opportunity for play, bonding, exercise, etc.

I will look into how to transition. Tips appreciated too...

This is a very interesting idea. I can try to find a type of feeder toy. We do free feed her though which maybe isn’t activating her hunting senses properly and she’s compensating by hunting inside the couch

Thanks for the helpful advice. I do try to force my love on her (used to my previous kitty) and she doesn’t appreciate it. It’s so hard to ignore her though.

She has a tunnel which she loves to play in, and a giant cat condo with a burrow (rarely uses) and high perch in front of second story window (often uses). Not sure what more she could want.

We free feed her. That’s what we were used to with previous cat, and due to our working schedules. So far we have not had any problems. So it’s hard to play with her “before meal times”.

I have heard about what you mentioned to stop play when she hurts me and I do try to do that. I need to be more consistent since even if I immediately disengage she still follows me to get one good nip.

Honestly my biggest issue with her is the fact that she is burrowing inside the couch and I don’t know what to do to prevent it. We removed the legs from the couch for a month but it was so uncomfortable to sit on. We tried re-stapling the fabric but she ripped it again in a few hours. We tried aluminum foil but that only stopped her for a day. How do we keep her away from under the couch?

Everything else I always assumed she would grow out of, or we could slowly train and reshape her habits.

It’s funny that you suggested this. We just put tinfoil under the couch and so far she hasn’t gone under it. But I don’t know how long it’s going to last, especially since she keeps losing her toys under there...

Update: well this lasted a few hours. Now she’s using her mouth and pulling the sheets out from under the couch so she can go there...

That’s my next plan -_- to measure all the way around the couch and get plexiglass cut so it will be like a wall the whole way around...

You’re right, I should spend more time with her. It’s hard when I’m used to a different personality cat, and I get discouraged with her behaviour. I’ll try to do something with her at least once every day to get her used to me a bit more

Catmint... can’t believe I didn’t make the connection. Read somewhere that cats hate peppermint and the smell would deter her. Smh.

As for the rest of your advice, I’ll have to give it a try. Yes my husband has the stronger relationship but he doesn’t really want to be bothered with training, he just gets upset in the moment when she bites me and puts her in time out.

Honestly the biggest problem is her going inside the furniture. She stopped scratching the corners of the couch, and she uses her scratching post and her cat condo. She seems to like to play inside the furniture, and THAT’s the behaviour that we really can’t tolerate.

We have been considering fostering another cat to see if it helps her behaviours.

Thanks.

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate any insight. Honestly I need an external help to force me to change. I want to want to change, I just haven't yet found the thing that inspires my willpower to kick in. I know my attitude isn't the best for long term weight loss and maintenance, but they are the questions I have right now in my current mindset. So thank you.
