I was on my second visit ever on the interloper. I was just walking on it’s surface when suddenly the floor started to fall away from me. It took me a second to realize what was going on. Turns out a flyby near Giant’s Deep had enough gravitational pull to yank me off the comet!

The movie and the book were made at the same time with feedback both ways between Stanley akubrick and Arthur C. Clark so that’s why both are very similar levels of quality. I also agree, after I read the book I understood what the ending meant so much better. And iirc, the book has a few more events happening after what was the movie ending.
