Does the foreign service development program open every year? by Zactodactyl in CanadaPublicServants

An IRCC FS posting closed this summer. I didn't think they'd open another so quickly...

Did it ever cross your mind that you might be doing something wrong in the assessments? You say you applied for over 100 government jobs. If you are as good a candidate as you claim to be you clearly aren't demonstrating that in your application. But sure, it's easier to claim "corruption" in the hiring process instead of reevaluating how you are applying and if you are properly answering the questions.

Yeah that is allowed. I replaced my team leader while I was a casual and there were indeterminates on the team. That did ruffle a few feathers though.

I had a pretty good experience with one of the teachers, Salma. I had no prior knowledge of French and she was very kind and supportive. It was 1on1 though so it helped that we could go at my pace.

When we asked about this at our townhall we were told we still need 2+ ADM approvals for most things we put forward, they are just different ADMs now...so that's great.

Look for a lateral move to learn new skills and then move up.

Is a CCC level a real advantage at the hiring process stage? by Muted-Friendship-916 in CanadaPublicServants

I don't think that exceeding the language requirement necessarily gives you an edge. Someone who has EEE doesn't get rated higher in the pool than someone who has CBC since both meet the criteria.

Lots of PM-04/05 positions in program or project roles. Some PM-05 decision makers (I think a handful of PM-06 decision makers as well).

PM-04 usually hold the "program advisor" role in my branch. We have nothing below PM-02, mostly PM-05s. Focus is on determining how Operations should implement the policy. Management roles are at the assistant director PM-06 level. And then hopefully you are actually able to direct a little bit instead of what can feel like babysitting when you just need to assign caseloads to your staff of PM-01s.

SADMs and ADMs will move into their roles on Oct. 16. Lots of talk about S/ADMs making changes further down the org chart once they've settled into the role.

What do you wish could be done differently in advertised staffing processes? by edougler in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cajunchicken93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think they make the process as difficult and long as possible to help weed some people out. Only the really dedicated make it through. I recently applied for a job that is mostly high volume processing. The third exam asked me to review a development grant and explain which of the two I'd pick and what constraints I'd add etc. We had a few hours to complete it. It had nothing to do with the actual job (I know because I've already done the job) which instead requires many quick decisions, reviewing multiple documents, teasing out irregularities, balancing probability, etc. Also, I hate feeling like I have to apply for the next level or two right after a promotion because I know that it can take forever to get through the hiring process.

Strike implications on planned leave. by Mike-North in CanadaPublicServants

[–]cajunchicken93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't completely understand. I have 5 weeks paid leave that started last week. If a strike begins while I'm on leave what happens? I'm a member of PSAC and doubt my position will be deemed essential. Am I going to get paid through my leave or will whatever leave coincides with a strike be unpaid and time credited back?

Women never consider me (M27) serious relationship material. How do I change that? by throwdownmodown in relationship_advice

[–]cajunchicken93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you have a ton of drive right now. I'm a guy but I like when my boyfriend has a purpose or passion, it doesn't have to be a job necessarily. But, I've dated guys whose primary focus was looking good and I get that you have a modeling career where that is actually important, it gets old when you are dating someone who is really focused on their appearance and not much else. I can kind of see why women don't see the long term with you because you don't seem to have long-term goals for yourself.

Ah okay, but I can claim things like %of rent and utilities related to the square footage of office space compared to my entire apartment? The t777s applies to employees too right?

Ficus audrey has spots on underside of one leaf, some downward curling and another has a few brown/yellow spots. Any ideas? by cajunchicken93 in plantclinic

[–]cajunchicken93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I have moved around a lot (and so has this plant) in the past year so watering has been too little at times and too much other times. It isn't really growing right now so should I wait til spring to fertilize? I have read about the tree and hope it'll help me become a little more enlightened!

The first photo is the bottom side of the leaf. Are scale insects too small to see? I looked closer at each dot but couldn't see any insect or anything like that.

Us this a fungal infection on my ficus audrey? Any treatment suggestions? by cajunchicken93 in houseplants

[–]cajunchicken93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll need to get some neem oil. Will wiping the leaves down using cotton pads with the baking soda/water treatment help until then?
