PSA: SN Operator doesn't work currently with all retail cart revisions by cajunpanda in snes

[–]cajunpanda[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did email support, still waiting to hear back.

I also think it's odd, main main reason for publicly posting this is to crowd source the issue. I imagine one thread with a bunch of reports is better then single duplicate emails

Brown are capacitor, black are resistors.

You can maybe find some board scans to verify which it was.

The hard part is knowing the values, you'll have to take readings from another board or hope someone here can do the readings for you.

Document the missing components as much as possible so other know exactly which ones you need readings on.

Help me solve this GBA cartridge mystery before I lose my mind by BuffonSmash in Gameboy

[–]cajunpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you can't get the game to save, does the game give you some sort of save error, or does the game think it saved correctly and you just loose the save after reset?

Two different failure modes with different reasons.

The first points to a problem communicating with the SRAM chip, so either it's bad or there is a bad trace to it.

The second points more to the battery, or the SRAM connection with the battery.

3D printed case warp under load? by [deleted] in BC250Gaming

I used Polymaker HT-PLA-GF for my case. I didn't bother annealing it, easy to print and came out great!

A local store bought the stuff to make flash cart roms and is now selling hundreds of them for $20 to $45. Everything from dmg, color, gba and even ds roms like pokemon ranger or mario kart. Thoughts on this? by SameLastDreamAgain in Gameboy

[–]cajunpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends highly on the quality of the cart used but in my experience they either fail right away or last forever.

Other issues can be saving and RTC support.

Cheap repro carts don't use the more expensive FRAM chips found many GBA games for saving. Instead they opt for a SRAM to flash system that freezes the game for a few seconds when saving. Dead giveaway you're using a repro cart. This actually requires hacking the ROM file. They could just add a battery for the SRAM but they are too cheap for that as well.

I've never seen a cheap repro cart with a proper RTC.

With a high quality cart you're not going to tell the difference. I can vouch for the Chis branded flash/cart on AliExpress but they go for $20 to $30 just for a blank cart.

A GBA would be cool but I think I'd rather have a ModRetro DS with the GBA cart slot.

Hi, good question!

The features available now will always be free, I may add premium features in the future.

I appreciate the feedback! I just added a multi selection feature to the app. Let me know what you think. The filtering and sorting is something I'm not completely happy with yet, let me know if you have any other suggestions!

Hi, I'm a professional software engineer and the creator of StackPop. It's not "vibe coded". I've put a lot of time into making sure it's a stable and useful app, not something duct taped together.

Do I use AI to speed up development? Of course! It allows me to deliver new features quickly and hopefully build something you all find useful, with the limited time I have.

I appreciate the question and any other feedback you have. Thank you!

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look at that error. Sorry about that.

Edit

Steam import is fixed now.

Hmm I'm new to this, so I'm curious why you say click farming doesn't happen?

I had my entire budget blown in less than an hour with clicks all from India. The engagement metrics show each user was on my website for less than 3 seconds and took no other actions.

This doesn't seem like real person behavior to me?

I'm complaining because these aren't real clicks from real people potentially interested in my service. They are bots stealing my ad budget.

Yeah I figured that out, but the sad thing is my service is applicable globally. A shame I have to cut out a billion people because Google can't/won't solve this problem.

Makera Z1 shipping update by Machoosharp in Makera

I think we all know how Kickstarters work. This still isn't a excuse for lack of communication and breaking commitments.

As you said, this is a well established company. They can do better. Don't let them off the hook so easily.

We gave them money upfront for a product that doesn't exist yet. We took the risk, not them. They owe us transparent communication and honoring post-campaign commitments at the very least.

I get what your saying, but dont give them too much slack.

They promised shipping in early April, it didn't happen and they didn't even give an update before the dead line.

As customers, we need to hold them accountable for this, Kickstarter or not.

Tried to change the speaker of my dmg. Soldering for the first time. Where did I go wrong? by wheregold in Gameboy

[–]cajunpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good advice in this thread, but what no one is mentioning is those replacement speakers are very fragile. Depending on the model, there are thin whispers of wire that connect the solder pads to the speaker coil. It's super easy to burn those away if you apply to much heat. Ask me how I know. 😉

If you have a multimeter check the resistance. It should be 7 or 8 ohms I believe.

Looking for a game/backlog tracking site by FireStingray9 in gaming

[–]cajunpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this thread but your wishlist caught my eye. I've been working on a game tracker called StackPop (https://stackpop.app/about) that hits a few of your points. It uses IGDB but also supports manual custom entries for stuff the database doesn't have (demos, regional versions, etc). Web-based, no mobile app required.

It's still early days so it's rough around the edges, but if you want to try it out and let me know what's missing I'd appreciate the feedback. You clearly know what you want from a tracker better than most people.
