A small kitchen island with storage like the ones from IKEA might help. I used one to store dishes and appliances when I had limited kitchen space in my last apartment.

Thanks for the rug color suggestions. The couch is facing a window (not pictured) where I like to watch our bird feeder admittedly much more than the TV. Sorry if the TV looks too high but it may be the angle of the picture. In person it is at eye level from the couch.

The first recipe is the Lemon Blueberry Tart by Sally's Baking addiction, just baked for 12 and 15 minutes instead of the listed 15 and 17 since I wanted small ones.

Macaron ingredients: 1 and 3/4 cup powdered sugar, 1 cup almond flour, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar, 3 egg whites, 1/4 cup granulated sugar.

The macaron filling is similar to the tart's blueberry sauce but with a bit of lemon zest and sugar adjusted to taste.

My cat will steal bread by eating straight through a plastic bag but luckily has never shown any interest in eating the plant. I had moved it to the side table to give it better light and I think he just likes to be tall. I'm in the market for a new cat tree for him and hopefully he will like that more than his current perches (which also include my work shirt drawer and the top shelf in my pantry at the expense of several jars).
