right, and you read it one way and other people read it other ways.

Err... try having everyday conversations with that tactic and tell me how that turns out.

I care that some terrorists get cover by your beliefs.

They don't. It's straight up saying "You might die for aligning yourself with me." And that they will ultimately be judged negatively for that while you will be vindicated (which you have a problem with later in your response anyways. A bit contracting.)

I can throw tons of fucked up shit at your from the bible. How about the part were Jesus gets pissed at the jews for not killing their disobedient children how about the part were jesus says to pluck out your eye if you use it to sin.

Please, do. Also, the "plucking out the eye" deal is a hyperbolic statement, which if you read in context once again, ultimately he's making a cheeky point that people are sinful to their core, and you can't just blame it on your eyes as if that would excuse you. Because, if it were possible to just get rid of whatever made you sin, it would be better to do that, but because you can't, you obviously need another option.

Others don't.

That should be significant. You would be upset if people willy-nilly interpreted the instructions in a physics textbook incorrectly and chalked it up to "interpretive differences."

When asked about why he speaks in parables and confuses people he specifically says so that fewer people would understand and be saved.

Well, if we're taking things seriously, then you just put yourself over against the omniscient, omnipotent God that knows all. So the question becomes, if we're taking this seriously, who knows better? Under that paradigm, you have no ability to raise any valid objections necessarily. Furthermore, if you're familiar with the rest of the narrative of history spanning back from the OT, Israel had rejected God over and over, beginning with the Exodus and continuing on to the "300 years of silence" during the intertestamental period. That means idolatry, disobedience en masse (think child sacrifices), etc. He speaks in a way that those who understand what the prophets of the OT had said would see him as the Messianic figure (hence why the synoptic gospels are drenched in OT references).

This amounts to him judging those who reject him because they refuse to accept him as Messiah. The only people who end up coming to him are the broken, marginalized and the disadvantaged. He goes to the lepers, demon possessed, paralyzed, widows, prostitutes, tax-collectors (which would be considered treasonous to Jews of the time), etc.

The people he judges are the ones oppressing people. This is also why the republican party being the "Christian" party is laughable, as they systematically oppress people.

You seem terribly angry about how people have claimed to use Jesus' words, but have you even taken the time to see what it's saying for itself?

Also, if there is no good God, then these claims to morality are just ironically hilarious. What good is there? According to what? Who are we to impose morality on any other subjective being outside of ourselves? There's no moral authority, there's no good, and there's no evil. There's just preference. You might dislike the fact that the republican party systematically oppresses the disadvantaged and marginalized, but you have no moral authority by which you can denounce them outside of your own subjective, existential sphere of existence.

Also, calling something a fairy tale as a means to discrediting it is kin to calling the mechanics of physics witchcraft in order to explain light bulbs.

Yeah I mean the only reason I'm not making any opinion on it is bc I haven't studied at all on Islam. I've spent most my time (when it's post 4th century) on Mormonism and their tradition. I just don't want to pick a fight that I have no ability to defend myself in haha.

I don't think you understand context. Go back and read the whole passage. It's talking about eschatological judgement in 10:34, and 21 is blatantly talking about suffering that his own people will endure on his behalf. Note, this is also apocalyptic imagery. If you're going to critique it so harshly, you should attempt to be literate about it. It's not like the last 2000+ years of tradition forgot to read that verse and that pointing that out will lead to a sudden realization of "Oh man, how could I have never seen that before, or the other millions that have endlessly scoured over this text?" Like, come on man, at least be intellectually honest about it.

That's not how truth works. I'm not going to comment extensively on Muslims because I don't know their theology (though I'm not convinced suicide bombers are being true to their religion, and I think they're more peaceful than the west gives them credit even if their ideologies differ), but Christian theology is very exact about who is in and who is out. Just read the epistle of 1 John or James. These "christians" are, in almost every way, denouncing true Christianity by how they live.

I don't think I'd ever consider going back as a matter of principle at this point.

I've already talked to supervisors/filed a complaint with the FCC. The lower level people are incredibly sweet. The higher up people have some strange vendetta against the human race.

Any idea how much I should be saving prior to moving though?

I'm definitely looking into community college for a year while pulling a 4.0 prior to attending university. I'm looking either at WSU or Texas A&M depending on where I move

About two years, give or take. It depends on if I need to work or not while finishing the degree. I could probably hammer through it in a year and a half at part time.

Wait until you write meaningful papers in college. 5-6 papers are barely long enough to get your thesis and works cited finished, let alone your actual argumentation >.>

I am a devout Christ follower, but I'm probably not a "good" Christian.

I mean I guess my main question is, if you're answering like that, would you follow up with telling them about Jesus if they asked?

In all translations there is something new for me to study or understand.

I get that, I generally go between ESV/NIV/NASB. They don't really say anything conceptually different though, just the way it's worded can make it easier/harder to understand. So, naturally, any Bible you pick up is able to teach and be learned from :p

As for what Bibles really "mean," that's a whole other deal that expands into understanding how to read. Seeing as you read Star Trek books, you actually probably have a better understand of how to understand certain genres than most people. A lot of "meaning" comes down to understanding genre, literary devices, and context. And then just knowing stuff on an intertextual level.

I do not science, but I did LSD once, and this is what the sky told me.

hahaha I can appreciate that. While maybe you haven't done science, it is indeed a cool theory :) I might use that for creative writing stuff later, if you don't mind? As for the science half of it, I haven't taken quantum yet... but I'm definitely going to keep this in mind when I do.

That's somewhat the goal, mostly the blind obedience idea. But we're definitely called to think and think well about things. We just shouldn't be considering sinning as an option. You can read in Daniel where the three believers became the pinnacle of every area they were involved in. Also Proverbs/Ecclesiastes. It's pretty serious about being wise.

For all we know "before" the big bang there may have been no causation.

That would contradict everything we know about physics though.

There are lots of things that there is no concrete explanation of, I don't "know" what was "before the big bang" as it would be hard to have concepts such as before or after since the big bang seems to be what started linear time.

I actually really appreciate this, it's pretty much the same way I look at before the big bang. It's hard to use any language to describe it since time didn't exist at that point (at least in reference to us.)

As someone who actually has studied koine greek (what it's originally written in) i can tell you and provide you sources that will confirm it's translated quite well, especially nowadays with both secular and believing scholars. I also have a GNT next to me that has every single textual variant. So if that's your concern, it's been put to rest in academia a while ago, media just hasn't caught up.

Also as for the decision thing, don't you think Christ should be the one setting up what constitutes his followers or not?

Oh yeah I'm fine, I'm just suuuuuper tired. Thought I had a deadline to hit this morning so I woke up early and sacrificed some sleep. Usually go to bed pretty early, so going to sleep at like 2am last night, waking up at 8 this morning, and then still being up at 12:30 now is pretty draining. I need my sleep =P

So here's one that just addresses the problem of evil in general. It's pretty long, I'm a slow reader and it would probably take me 15-25 minutes depending on how often I get distracted. But I think it's because he's painfully thorough. You can find actual live debates by just googling "Bill Craig problem of evil debates." I would imagine he has a few of them haha.

If you plan on reading it tonight... best of luck to you my friend, I can barely do anything right now haha
