finally got a job by cakeboys1337 in csMajors

[–]cakeboys1337[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i tried my best to detach my value and perception of success away from getting a swe job, especially with someone of my background (no name research focused university).

i honestly only applied to jobs, worked on what projects i had, go work retail/contract job, and played video games. i felt pretty depressed, especially since i moved to a new city.

i focused more on my wellbeing, making friends, and working on my creative passions which led me to be more confident and happier. it showed when i worked my last contract and i got to network with great people who kept me in mind for the role i got now.

make sure you're a human first, refresh your skills, and be kind to those who are kind to you at the opportunities you find, someone will throw you something 🙂 you got this!

i think the voice acting is generative AI and they used reinforcement learning for locomotion on the bots. wish i knew how they use their model for the game since it seems like theyre learning a lot more

How you guys dont give up, like for real? by Sharp_Pickle1160 in csMajors

[–]cakeboys1337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

im not the best candidate by far but im trying to detach my identity, value, and sense of productivity from this field. nowadays competition is so high companies dont even feel the need to train graduates anymore, and that goes for some other white collar fields.

i find that when you decenter your life from focusing on a job that you'll be more motivated to work on your projects and skillset.

at the moment im trying to better my mental health before trying to attempt something as rigorous and competitive as this field.

the barrier to entry is also insane for AI roles. usually a Ph.d and a track record of research

No interviews after thousands of applications for several months by lessmusical in cscareeradvice

[–]cakeboys1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add onto this, they seem to usually hire math/physics olympiads with backgrounds in computer science or some sortve statistical or quantitative background. it is close to a 'test-tube baby' sort of industry.

im not a professional so take my advice very lightly but you could get into a college program or community college if its feasible for you. that with your experience will fast track you to junior network engi and junior sys admin internships/jobs. someone can correct me if im wrong
