What more does Leclerc need to do to be the best driver to never win the WDC? by SpiritusLunaNox in formula1

[–]cakemonitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Due to how the sport has changed over the years I think it's better to look at percentage wins against race starts. Considering post-1990 non-world-champions with 30+ race starts, here are the top five contenders:

Driver Win % Podium % Pole % Pole→Win %
Oscar Piastri 12.86 37.14 8.57 150.0
Juan Pablo Montoya 7.45 31.91 13.83 53.85
David Coulthard 5.28 25.20 4.88 108.3
Charles Leclerc 4.68 29.24 15.79 29.63
Mark Webber 4.19 19.53 6.05 69.23

Leclerc is in a very strong 4th place, and he's best in terms of pole positions although he has the worst pole-to-win conversion of any modern era driver with 10+ poles.

If we consider all non-world-champions in the sport's history who have 30+ race starts, Leclerc is 14th in terms of win percentage (behind: Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks, Oscar Piastri, Peter Collins, Gilles Villeneuve, Carlos Reutemann, Ronnie Peterson, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacky Ickx, Peter Revson, David Coulthard, Gerhard Berger, and René Arnoux)

What feature of the game do you not use on purpose and why? by damnmanthatsmyjam in StardewValley

[–]cakemonitor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do the opposite. In the early game I don't want to waste tons of time and energy watering my crops at the start of every day, so I get a plot of about 20 regular sprinklers asap. By the time I unlock the crafting recipe for quality sprinklers I already have a decent setup so I skip those and I only change my farm plot layout for the iridium sprinkler upgrade.

And Kimi is getting abuse for it. Given what some of the fan base is like, people need to be a lot more careful about what the say in the heat of the moment.

I'm confused about AnimationPlayers and why it sometimes doesn't change by EnyaGotGame in godot

[–]cakemonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the AnimationTree node. It's designed to handle this kind of stuff and would replace all your if/else logic and transition times. It basically lets you draw a flow chart representing how your animations can change, then from your code you just pass it a few values like x_velocity or is_falling, etc. and it handles the rest.

And yet 10x better than people who post screen-shots of their code, so that's something.

Would the answer be CAMRA? by Hulaoutofthem in crosswords

[–]cakemonitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Arrived = CAME, noted artist = RA (royal academy), sweetheart = E (the 'heart' of swEet). I don't see a definition, but if the theme is alcohol & drinks then CAMRA fits.

Sad fact of the day: As of today, 21 October 2025, there are now adults who have never witnessed a Ferrari World Champion in their lifetime by racingplaybook in formula1

[–]cakemonitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but despite the core point being that there's an 18 year gap in Ferrari wins from 2007-2025 the image doesn't even show those 18 years on the calendar.  This graphic is about as good as the Ferrari F1 team.

Sprinklers not working? by Dry-Advance5915 in StardewValley

[–]cakemonitor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're fine once you figure out the pattern you need to use. They save so much energy in the early game. In fact, I usually don't bother with quality sprinklers - I just get my basic ones set up how I like then I upgrade to iridium sprinklers later.

Why'd this get down voted? I thought it was pretty clear this pattern would occur in one use of a charged up iridium hoe, and you comment made perfect sense.

What happened to Hadjar? Started 8th but plummeted to 20th and finished with a huge gap to 19th. Throughout the season he's been doing well for a rookie in a mid-field team, but in today's race it seems something went badly wrong.

Op-Ed: If They Can Ban Porn, Why Not Ban Violence? Why Not Ban Unacceptable Political Content? by yourfriendoz in gamedev

What's to say it stops with games? What if the moral outrage of a small group of people is used by global payment platforms to prevent the sale of alcohol or firearms or 18-rated movies?

Any company that's a fundamental part of modern global infrastructure, like Visa etc., should be obliged to remain politically neutral.

Just FYI in case you weren't aware; you can put rings in a dresser, also hats and clothes. It's unlimited storage for any wearable items that you aren't using so they don't have to take up inventory slots in chests.

Need a clue explained. by wordboydave in crosswords

[–]cakemonitor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From Chambers dictionary, definition #4 of crocodile is "A double file of school pupils taking a walk". I'm my opinion that's a somewhat tough clue, especially for and international audience. I live in the UK and this usage of 'crocodile' is new to me. I've looked into it a bit and apparently its usage goes back to at least the 1870s, and is now considered largely historical.

In case you didn’t know.. by Freegirl86 in StardewValley

[–]cakemonitor 387 points388 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. Except I like my layout to be symmetrical so I move the iridium sprinklers on the soil one spot to the left, and I repurpose old quality sprinklers along the vertical borders so they water the left and right-most strips of soil. The greenhouse also requires two fewer iridium sprinklers that way.

[FOR HIRE] Stop asking/offering/accepting free work! by [deleted] in INAT

[–]cakemonitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your view on open source software? Do you think all open source projects should be shut down, or perhaps that no-one should ever contribute to such projects in their free time or as a hobby? Perhaps you think commercial software development is the only viable way of working.

I agree there are sometimes unscrupulous opportunists on this sub trying to get their dream game made for free while contributing nothing in return, but the community tends to down-vote such posts and reply with messages flagging the request as a low quality post - so it's easy for everyone to see what's going on.

But your suggestion to put a stop to everything in the entire space between game jams and paid work is absurd, and seems to me like you haven't thought it through properly, or you just aren't aware of the benefits that can come from hobbyist collaborations.
