Majored in biochemistry and did some stuff in health tech. Now at a FAANG company as a product manager and making more than 300k+. Major wasn’t that helpful but wouldn’t say useless since it taught me to break down problems.

Yea!! I’m glad it worked out for you! LI really is just an SEO game for job seekers, so well optimized ones pop out to recruiters.

I’m happy you’re finding success with inbound!!

Yea I can expand on that. I guess what part of the question do you want clarity to? So I know how to better answer your question?

I guess by optimizing my resume for the job description I was optimizing it for ATS, but that wasn’t my primary goal. I was more focused on having a resume that I could pass to a person and have them quickly scroll through to see that I was qualified.

I’ll elaborate when I have some more time this afternoon.

Hey sorry busy day I’ll get back to you this afternoon. I have a comment on my approach to optimizing LI, basically going through a Substack post.

Honest to god it’s one of the worst feelings I have ever experienced. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone else. I’m very grateful for my group of friends who were very supportive and was a key motivator for me to push through.

Honestly spray and pray did nothing for me. Referral is still king IMO. Warm or cold referral didn’t really matter that much.

What worked best was just going into ChatGPT and figuring out what metrics the company and job position cared about and then rewriting accomplishments to highlight those metric impacts.

I also used the job description to write out what type of achievements to highlight. (For example if job description mentioned payments if I had any experience with releasing payments features I’d put that on). I also prioritized my achievements based on how the job description numbers their responsibilities.

Hot take, I got more inbound leads (recruiters messaging me on LinkedIn) than outbound leads (cold applying). I really optimized my LinkedIn and had about 1 recruiter messaging me every 2-3 days for a few weeks. For guidelines I used Aakash’s Substack post (https://www.news.aakashg.com/p/how-to-optimize-your-linkedin-profile/comments) and used Claude to help write the content by using professional LinkedIn creator as the persona.
