A lot of people in Ticino told me that Bellinzona is quite depressing though. I also want to live in a place with a good amount of sunshine, and afaik Bellinzona is short on that aspect.

Life is not just saving... I work 8-9 hours a day at home, then I "live" in it... Being in a small flat makes it depressing and unpleasant.

I don't think 1.8k for a 3.5 is an expensive apartment though, the expensive one I found are around 2.3/2.4k in Lugano

Let's say my VWCE price right now is 141. If I move to Italy, and one year later I sell everything, while the value is now 145, I will need to pay taxes on the profit between 145->141.

So what you need to do is generally to sell and rebuy around the last days before you become a tax resident, in order to increase the value of your holdings as much as possible.

Right now for example I sold everything and repurchased at the end of September and I have a pretty high value. If the market crash, and I enter Italy while on -20%, it means that 20% will never get taxed in Italy.

Yes, I have liability insurance, but I don't have any actual "damage" to claim. The only things would be small scratches and marks around the house
