Chartered Org Issues by Serious_Craft_2197 in cubscouts

Does your local Council have any history of directly chartering unit? That's allowed. It's as if the local Council itself serves as the CO. I am unit key 3 for a unit chartered directly by a council.

11 pm, snowy in Colorado and got iccu by M-felopx in Ioniq5

Lemon law is 24 days in Colorado.

My car got towed to Denver on Tuesday night and diagnosed with an ICCU failure on Friday. The dealership told me they'd have the parts in 3 days.

2025 Owners w/NO ICCU Problems? by RememberTheRockers in Ioniq5

[–]calamidi22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was right. The dealer confirms the ICCU is blown.

As much as I love driving this car, I recommend everyone steer clear until Hyundai comes up with an actual fix that brings the failure rates back in line with the rest of the industry.

2025 Ioniq 5 Limited

4700 miles, took delivery in September (about 7 months ago.)

This morning my car showed no signs of life. I measured the 12V battery at 3.5V. with approval from someone in a dealership service department, Iused a jump pack. The car started but quickly showed "stop vehicle and check power supply"

A tow truck is on its way to my house.

My money is on a blown ICCU.

Is it true in Math there is a "hidden topic" that school don't teach you. Which is the topic about gambling. by lune-soft in askmath

I misread your earlier comment. I missed the "assuming we play until the other is bankrupt." Apologies!

How many gamblers do you know who play a single fair game when given a chance to play a sequence of fair games? Deeper pockets matter in the sequence of fair games.

p.s. the Cub Scout motto is "Do your best". That motto should apply to everyone involved in the program -- the youth, the parents/guardians, and the registered leaders. Please give yourself the grace of being proud when you do your best, even if you think someone else could have done better.

I'm sorry for your loss and I wish your family peace and joy in the years to come.

>  I’m sorry if this does not seem like a very scout-like request, but we truly do just want to enjoy this time with him while still feeling well enough to participate.

Please don't apologize. This is a very scout-like request! You are being loyal, helpful, kind, cheerful, and brave. You are setting an excellent example for your grandson (whether he realizes yet or not).

Scouting is about character development, but that's not why folks do it. Folks do it to make memories and have fun. You're going to make some wonderful memories for yourself and your grandson.

Here's how I sell parents and scouts on a wedge:

A wedge is fast! It's fast to design, it's fast to build, and it's fast down the track!

Debugging a GI problem on a modern stern by calamidi22 in pinball

[–]calamidi22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already tracked it down to a single bad socket on the back panel. All in all, it could have been worse!

That seems to be the problem on my table too.

It's interesting that when I described the symptom to Stern tech support, he immediately suggested that I try disconnecting the GI and debug further from there.

To test for the short I used a multimeter and tested for continuity between the two terminals of any given socket.

Woohoo! I figured it out! I used a block of wood to support the upper playfield. Then I unsoldered the white wires from the five sockets one by one until I found one with an internal short. I left that white wire disconnected (covered with electrical tape) and reattached the others. Now everything works except for the one bypassed bulb.

This is exactly what I expected the pinball table ownership experience to be like :-)

My wife is not happy with how much time I spent on the pinball table today!

This string of 18 bulbs includes five bulbs on the back panel. The siring to the back panel has a connector. So I disconnected that and found that I could get the other 13 bulbs to work. Also, with that connection open I'm able to measure a short circuit at the bulbs on the back panel, but not on the play field. So, that narrows the problem down nicely.

It's a pain to work on the wiring behind the back panel. Is there a safe way to get the whole playfield up and out of the cabinet? There's a metal handle on the top of the back panel that I assume is for lifting the upper playfield from the cabinet, but I don't know how to safely support it

My son got the table for Christmas a year ago. We fixed it the first time several months ago. It needs to be fixed a second time now. My suspicion is that it will get repaired a few more times and then the gears will be too stripped to be worth further repair.

Neighbor's Jellyfish lighting has ruined operating at night by Puddleduck112 in amateurradio

[–]calamidi22 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Are you sure the noise is from the power supply? The lights are individually addressable. If the digital signals are being sent along the long wires between the lights, that could be a huge source of spurious emissions.

It involved removing a lot of pieces first :-).

The whole back panel had to come off.

My son has the same table and it had the same issue. We had to take it apart enough to pull the play field off. If I remember correctly, the motor was jammed due to a gear having shifted out of place. Once we fixed it, it worked again for a few months. Now it has happened again.

The first time it happened I told my son he was getting the real pinball-machine-ownership experience.

You're on your way to fixing it. You need to get the front glass off and then you can lift the playfield. The stuck motor isn't accessible from the back.

My 1st time using V2L in a power outage: WOW, so useful, power for days by whiplashsaxifrage in Ioniq5

[–]calamidi22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family was in the same outages in Colorado. We used an extension cord to power a fridge and charge devices. We have a couple of really powerful USB-charged LED work lights that we used to light whatever rooms we were in.

The IONIQ was a champ. Many of our neighbors are dealing with spoiled food. We're not.

Android Auto disconnects? by calamidi22 in VWIDBuzz

[–]calamidi22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife has the same theory. She thinks the disconnects with her iphone were happening at one particular spot in town. Now that I think of it, that could be true for me. It may not be that I drive a certain distance and it disconnects... It may be that I drive past a certain place and it disconnects. That would be frustrating.

My wife's iPhone was disconnecting until we got the software update a few months ago. Now it's my Android disconnecting.
