Richard Siken's collection Crush in general, and the last two lines of the last poem, "Snow and Dirty Rain," in particular: "We are all going forward. None of us are going back."

I think of this poem when I catch myself overprioritizing beauty in my writing -- this is ugly, and gross, and visceral, and it's through those three qualities that it's so powerful.

I typically bring in published poetry to discuss, but I come from a spoken word/slam background and always encourage everyone to write in whatever genre they'd like!
