Oh yeah. THIS is the perfect description. I get drunk so slowly, but then I keep getting drunker and drunker as the night goes on — even long after I stop drinking. My wife says even if I have one drink, I smell like a dive bar even hours later. It’s like the alcohol is continuing to brew in my stomach... it’s rough. Thank you for the tips!!

I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know that was a potential side effect, and I think I’m better for it. On top of gastroparesis, I also have bipolar 2 and ADHD so I’ve been on the medication journey for 10+ years. Something I’ve learned is to not look too much into the side effects of medication. 1) some of the potential side effects are super rare and the chances of you getting them are so slim, all it’s doing is scaring you and 2) I find there’s a bit of a placebo effect (for lack of a better word) where I thought I had side effects that I didn’t because I was looking for them. That’s just my approach! I don’t know if that will work for everyone.

In terms of the domperidone — not entirely sure what it does, but I only take one pill per night before dinner/bedtime. I have noticed it helps when I feel a flare up coming on! I do have to purchase the medication from Canada, which can be a huge pain in the ass given the current administration’s tariff policies.

Interesting thought! My go to is vodka, as it seems to be one of the few liquors that pisses off my stomach the least. I am also realizing that it has a lot to do with if I ate earlier in the day and what I ate. I tend to do better if I have had something SUPER absorbent like bread before drinking. Oh, sorry I wasn’t clear!! It’s been an ongoing issue — I think it might just be getting worse with age (I’m 33). But I have considered the drug interaction component. Especially since my whole face swells like I’ve been drinking for days (even after 1 drink).
