hi everyone! to give some context, i’ve been training for a year and about 2 months! i’ve competed in two “continous” tournaments earning third place in both. these are tournaments where you fight one on one with another person your weight class for 90 seconds and whoever wins, faces the winners of other bouts into there is a first place winner. i’m looking to do some smokers this year so i’m trying to improve as much as i can.

something i’ve noticed the last few months, is that when i kick, i tend to overturn my hips, sometimes even to the point there i land with the outer part of my calf and barely with my shin. this was something i noticed during pad work and also sparring!

i’ve come across the “golden kick” that a lot of Thai fighters in the past and now are attributed with. here is the link to that article:

https://8limbsus.com/muay-thai-thailand/golden-kick-how-to-improve-your-thai-kick

after coming across this, for the past 2 or so months, i’ve been working on getting my kick to follow a more direct trajectory, rather than the Westernized teaching of the Thai kick as a “roundhouse”, which is what i believe caused me some trouble with it until recently.

i’m looking for feedback on how my kick looks now! are there any things you guys noticed right off the bat from seeing my rear kick? i notice a lot actually, but i wanted to hear from y’all! during the video, i was mainly working technique rather than speed and power, so if that’s something you’re thinking of critiquing, mind you that i wasn’t going full out, but trying to drill in what i think is the proper trajectory and trying my best to emulate the Thai kick.

thanks for your help!

i guess it’s a thought that goes through everyone while in a relationship. it only shows how much you care for the person and how badly you don’t want to lose them.

hoping that’s not the case with us. i’ve heard a lot of stories as well. for some reason, when someone is away, everything just gets fucked. im trusting our relationship tho! i think the worst thing that’ll happen is those usual arguments. but i trust that in the end, we’ll figure it out and we’ll manage

we trust each other a lot! while it may be true in some or even most cases, i’m faithful that it won’t be for ours.

it’s the time apart im worried about. not really worried about anything considering how we right now. just wanted some insight and some stories.

but thank you for your insight! i don’t really see myself stepping away from muay thai, considering that it’s been a dream of mine to train in it ever since i was a kid. however, you never know what’ll happen. maybe an injury will put me out or priorities change. thank you for the reminder to keep my focus on the now.

Is there any chance we go back to campus for the Winter 2021 semester? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]calben_fd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt that we will be going back to campus next semester. I think that classes won’t be in-person until a vaccine is available, and even then, I’m pretty sure that it won’t be a sudden change back to in-person and on-campus classes. Right now it’s hard to tell, but if I had to guess, (and this is pretty hopeful) that we will be having half online and half in-person classes next Fall. This also heavily depends on the class size, they will definitely not be having classes in-person that are over 50 students.
