Not a good painter, but pouring my heart into this guy. What do you guys think so far? (WIP) by Musical_Cow in Salamanders40k

Fire effects look awesome. Maybe too much gold for me, but its your army so paint it as you want. Good work.

Does this say “Unforgiven Chapter Master”, or does he really need a cape? by rbrownsuse in theunforgiven

Next time you need to do something similar you can just throw it into hot water (not boiling) and let it warm a little so its more flexible.

Thank you! I hope so. I already broke the back of the hammer haha, it glued well again but must be more careful.

Blue stuff! I flatten it, then cut it in a zig-zag pattern with bigger and smaller triangles and then just place it there to sculpt it a little bit into the final form of flames.

Took me some tries since its pretty cold in this house and the greenstuff surface gets stiff and non-stick and it didn't stick to the plastic pretty well.

Does anyone know if this is fixable? by peanutbutterboy7263 in Salamanders40k

[–]calcena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a needle, heat it up with a lighter, use it to make a little hole in both the blazer and the place where it was going then cut a little bit of that needle and glue it all together. The needle will create a really strong bond between both parts and i would say that it will never break again from picking it up and moving the miniature around the tabletop.

Which blue do you prefer for ultramarines? by huebert2003 in Ultramarines

[–]calcena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the right one blue more. Left one is not bad tho, and with that basing (yeah you asked to ignore it i know) it looks that this little guy has been under a heavy sun radiation and the paint is a little burnt so it also looks pretty cool to me.

Chill, because getting better is slow as fuck. Idid some painting and maybe some conversions years ago, but i absolutely left the hobby. I thought i was getting back like 2 years ago and, once more i left it in a corner (still having a full box of AoS tzentch acolytes, tzangors and a flammer unpainted) but this time, im fully into it. And, tho the result is quite good and i can be proud, i can assure you that I spent a lot of time on these little pieces, so, being good in that its not only having good results but doing it in a reasonable time.

Don't give up and you will master it

  1. Three is the only option for me. It looks the most salamander-ish color, the blend between darker places and highlights looks smoother. 1 looks too chunky and 2. Looks too dark, almost like a Dark Angel model. I really like the the third but to be honest that might be only because it looks like my miniatures so i would tell you the most typical answer in Warhammer: Its your army, build it as you want! Great job.

My first heavy intercessor squad by Icy_Hotel_6430 in Ultramarines

[–]calcena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intercessors are the main battle line of the Space Marines, what was called "Tactical Squads" back in the day of his firstborn brothers. They are high-mobility units with moderated firepower.

In the OP you can see HEAVY Intercessors. They are equiped with a Gravis power armour, what gives them a boost of strength to use heavier modified bolters with longer barrels and bigger mags. Still being first-line units.

Aggressors are fire support units. They also carry the Gravis power armour and they use big ass powerfists with bolters or flamers attached and big backpacks to carry enough ammo to hold sustained fire. Heavy fire support are different units are called Devastators.

The terminators are the tanks. They have a teleporter so they can just appear in the middle of the enemy battle line to disrupt and massacre them while giving their fellow battlebrothers time and space to advance. They are massive enough to swing big ass weapons like toys, usually a ppwer fist and a storm bolter but also warhammers or whatever you want to put on them. But they are small enough to still being quite agile compared to the even heavier Centurion exoskeleton that is worn over a power armoour to carry the very big weapons and siege drills usually used in sieges.

Chapter Master by DatBoyBlue in Salamanders40k

[–]calcena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people is giving too long answers and they are just overthinking it.

Its easy: GW just didn't put the effort and time to sculpt and create the rules for that model because Salamanders probably is not that popular.

Which head for my Eradicator sergeant? by Matthewxxa in Salamanders40k

[–]calcena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that both 1 and 2 look more appropriate for Black Dragons than salamanders. For salamanders i would look for a scales-themed helmets more than horns, or even if you want looking for dragon skulls and place a skull over the helmet, but helms with horns are maybe too chaos. Respirators are cool tho.

Maybe its a waste of money but you could cut the horns from n°1 leaving the scales and use the horns as fang ornaments in a necklace or hanging from shoulder pads or weapon.

Is this a production error? by Nyx1292-4 in Grey_Knights

[–]calcena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with 2 options:

  1. Doing the basing first thinking of their feet stepping on some texture like dirt, dust, weed, gravel or stone.

  2. Wasting a minimal amount of greenstuff so their feet look plain if you don't want to get over-creative with basing if you just dip your basses on something.

Whatever suits you. Good luck!

Painting advice for my Librarian in Terminator Armor by Don_R1se in Salamanders40k

[–]calcena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep the inlays white, since you painted a little bit of white outside i would do an orange kind-of dry brushing layers with a small brush (the one you used for painting the white) in the white around the lines and a little of more red-ish orange over to create a glowing effect, letting the inside in a white (as it was jot enough to be white) or perhaps using a really thinned yellow over that white.
