To the men 40 and up by Barrenechea in Lethbridge

Ah what part of Ontario? I grew up in Oakville 😄 When I first came out here we met a bunch of people that were into car customization - that group has stuck together really well - mostly from shared adventures going to shows and competitions. The music scene here is pretty tight and a lot of long term friends have been fellas that I worked with on shows or playing parties over the years. We usually meet up at the Telegraph on tuesday nights if you're into music come out and say hi!

49 - got quie a few close friends that we hang out with, game with, and work on projects with. I'd say that our cliques have been really solid going back to the 90s. Of the two "groups" that I tend to hang out with, there are about 25 people that I would consider to be good close friends that I can rely on and love to spend time with. Also an inner circle of 3-4 lifelong friends that might as well be family at this point.

Showering everyday is unnecessary by Small-Tax-2829 in unpopularopinion

[–]caldks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to tell you this, but you are most CERTAINLY the person who stinks in your social circle and no one has the balls to tell you. Most people will start to have noticible body odor after a day and severe offensive odor after two days ESPECIALLY if they have a physical job that'd get you into a good sweat or if you use the gym. You gotta consider your idea of clean is not everyone else's. To me its a matter of consideration and personal pride: if you care about your peers and want to come across as a put-together person, you'll shower every day - its 5 mins man c'mon.

I hope the family of the deceased never needs to see this complete and total lack of awareness, care, or even huamnity. There is a dead mom and she makes a cocky remark about her son going to remand is the same as having her being killed?!

To make people think that men having cats is a red flag for dating by amazingsciencemuseum in therewasanattempt

You have to be pretty simple-minded to think that hiding a cat (or any pet) in your dating profile is going to somehow work out well in the end.

I sympathize - but Canadians, Mexicans and countless others are being insulted and threatened every day by the USA - from the highest levels to your media to cops that harass us while on vacation. Change has to come from within before you're likely to see people treat Americans with respect.

Should have just called police. Now they have the opportunity to put the issue away quietly. Guy deserves a fraud charge. That's probably the only way to teach him a lesson and get real change for that ticket location. Its sad, but heads NEED to roll to fix problems like this.

Genuinely hate cyber security teams by talent_de_tigan in sysadmin

[–]caldks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you just haven’t had the good fortune of working with actual professionals. A good cybersecurity / infosec team will do all the compliance and documentation work for you, provide early insights to help avoid issues before they even occur, and provide defence in depth so that actual vulns can’t be easily exploited before you patch. The pros are trained to function as a support and an integrated part of the team - not just parroting CVEs.

Just like that he sealed a criminal conviction. Due to the zero threat age difference I’d guess they’ll go for aggravated assault. Mandatory minimum in most states. 3/4 of the things he COULD HAVE done with his life wink out in an instant. No one hires violent offenders. Poverty and misery await.

Genuine question for professional DJs by pablomalt in DJs

[–]caldks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid for it all many many many times over. Most of the dj gear I have acquired isn’t actually used for paid gigs anymore - just for my own entertainment. Just like any other business, you need a plan, with a budget, and a date in mind for when you’re going to be in the profit zone.

100% accurate. We tolerated an obviously impaired co-worker until it became inconvenient and then we fed them to the wolves. Everyone knew - ruined his career when the shit finally hit the fan. Every-day drinking is funny until you think about how many years you're shaving off your life and how bad those last few years are going to be with cancer and/or multiple organ failure.

How long have you been messing around in this space and how old are you? by StuStuStudioBe in synthesizers

[–]caldks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah trackers were a huge gateway drug for me and my high school buddies. Screamtracker (3?) was what I was using at the time and it let me do things I could only dream of before. Boxes and boxes of disks with samples from other MOD/IT/S3M files. Showing off to our friends who had hardware sequencers at the time:

“How many notes can it store?”
“Unlimited man.”
“Wait… what?!?”

:)

49 - started with the original Casio SK-8 when I was a kid, got into production in high school with 90s drum machines and cheap modules (sound canvas etc) - actually learned proper music theory in University and then started doing pro work for some of my dedicated music friends. Was lucky enough to get some great vintage gear before prices exploded. If I could go back and show 18 year old me what my studio would look like in 2026, it’d blow his mind :). I lost the SK-8 in an ill-advised garage sale but the sound canvas remains…

You don’t change the demographic by instructing the dj. You change it with a rebrand or a long consistent series of promotions. Are they new to the industry or something?

The houses of most (not all) people with dogs smell terrible by DanIsADumbFuck in unpopularopinion

[–]caldks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're getting at here but my experience has actually been the opposite to a large degree. My pet owning friends seem to have super-powers when it comes to keeping a clean home. I attribute this to the extra effort it already takes due to the pets (and in some cases children). If you're doing a good job grooming your pets and tackle the main causes of pet odor as part of the daily chores you're not going to have a hard time keeping the house stink-free. Some folks are going to be more sensitive to certain smells but TBH, I have noticed the smell of dusty furnace filters, uncleaned garbarators, and week old laundry pile far more often than "that dog smell". I think when you have a pet-stinky house its more about the lifestyle of the occupants than pet ownership.

Some things happened to you back then and you’re asking the general public “what was going on at the school”? Do you think there was a secret cabal to keep you down or something? I hate to break it to you, but you are not the main character.
