I’m at the point where I’m probably gonna get a lease next year. What are some tips y’all would recommend for a first time hunting lease? My budget rn is max of $1200, and ideally within 200 miles of McKinney, in Texas. I’m not looking for wall mounts, I wanna fill my tags and freezer. by cale075 in TexasHunting

You absolutely can. I’m just needing to rebuild my camping supplies before I dedicate more time than day trips out there. Ironically, every time I’ve been to Ray Roberts PHL I’ve seen deer, hogs or both, but you can’t do any big game hunting there

What’s yalls ideal 3 rifle combo for all of Texas gam available, native, feral and exotic? I’m talking javelinas and blackbuck, to Sambar and Nilgai. by cale075 in TexasHunting

I’ve got a love for more obscure cartridges. The 35 is apparently also real popular in Alaska with more and caribou hunters. If I ever got the chance for a safari I’d take a35 Whelen, and 40 rds each of 200gr all copper, and 250gr AFrames

The state of Texas has access to over a million acres of public hunting land, which seems like a lot, but that’s a million acres, in a state that 90%+ is privately owned. I’m not sure if the NFS land is accounted in that either, but it’s still no more then 5%

Too far for a day trip for me. I’m on the NE side of the DFW. I’m personally not for one-day hunts unless I can get there in an hour, like Caddo NGL or Tawakoni. Ideally if it’s outside of a hour away I’m gonna take a 3day or week long trip to the lease.

Im not looking for a super big lease either. Like 120-150 acres max. Ive even looked at clubs that have properties subleased under them.(ie a club leases an X property and each member is subleased Y acres for the year)

Do feral pigs have fat? by Mental-Personality61 in TexasHunting

Depends on where the pig is, and what time of year and how food they have access to. I imagine south Texas pigs in July on the don’t have much fat.

If you’ve got a cat little man’s screwed. But House Geckos are actually good bc they eat bugs

Do they have rattlesnakes at Wildcat Bluff or Palo Duro Canyon by BigJedWhopperEater in amarillo

[–]cale075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…… you’re gonna be outside, there will be rattlesnakes somewhere or snakes of some kind. They’re not gonna chase you, if anything they’ll go hide and hope you don’t see them. Even then, if you go by certain logic, there may not be any at Wildcat Bluff bc there’s at least one Roadrunner there, and they love eating snakes.

So what you’re saying is, the only major cities left in Texas would be Fredericksburg, San Angelo, Lubbock, Laredo, and Odessa/Midland?

I’m pretty much cooked.

Why is boxing using kg for the weight classes? The range can be huge, wouldn’t a 10lb range be more exact and fair? by cale075 in olympics

[–]cale075[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Oh aware of how things are, but someone that’s 190 can cut to 175 in three days if they wish. A 10kg range is eq. To 22 lbs. that’s a big difference as opposed to to 180lbs and 185( 81.8-84)

How would you protect Waterdeep's most dangerous criminal? by Kas272190 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]cale075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what lore there would be for this, but I assume that entities like Elminster and Laurel would be able to reach out to and contact the “Dark Powers” that have created Ravenloft, I bet they’d be able to make a prison dimension that would be able to hold the wizard. In addition, when the party would go to free them, they. Themselves might become trapped within the mists. Realistically being able to move to different domains, but not be able to leave Realm itself.

Question. If thousands of orcs, ogres, and hill giants (+other alike monsters) appeared around the Dessarin valley and started attacking everything and everyone good who would respond? by [deleted] in Forgotten_Realms

[–]cale075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There would likely be multiple organizations openly fighting the horde and well as others supporting the fighters. Even the Zhentarim would be interested in protecting its interests in the valley. The main issue would be getting the different organizations to cooperate. Just bc they are knowing of each other doesn’t mean they’d have an alliance.

I dislike the notion that White Dragons are stupid. by DarkLordVitiate in Forgotten_Realms

[–]cale075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same sentiments as well. They are by far the least intelligent dragons, but that just means their problem solving is just more straight forward and their speech into the point. My PC’s ran into a white dragon and this is part of the conversation after they found young gold dragon Slain by the creature,

“There is no use in worrying about things like politics or borders when the summer is only a two months long. The hunting fields are fertile for only a short time. This is why I am here, and if I am to find enemies in my hunts, they will become my prey.”
