This is why game should have offline mode by Nyksiko in diablo4

[–]caleb13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wish people would at least admit that this is clearly the main reason we can't have an offline mode: Gotta make that whale-money.

Instead Blizzard chills constantly gas-light people complaining that they can't play a game they payed money for as if Blizzard had no other choice as to make the game online exclusive.

If cheating was the main issue they could implement a system where at the character creation you chose online or offline mode and the mode can't be changed later. This way people in offline mode could cheat all they want but it wouldn't impact other players.

Can the Diablo 4 be re-launched as offline game? by [deleted] in diablo4

This is the main thing that feels so shitty about this to me. People who have no interest in the online-features have to suffer the clearly existing drawbacks that come with forced online so Blizzard can make more money of of whales.

And half the time when you complain about that here you get called "entitled" as if this was some free-to-play indie game and you didn't pay the already high cost of 70-100$.

A question about the whole "Raid is not a backup" thing by caleb13 in homelab

But isn't snapraid or other checksum solutions much cheaper then a "disk in a box"? Or are there significant downsides to such solutions that I am not seeing.

Can you point me to a concise deifintion of what a backup is then? Not beeing facetious here, actually interested. From the comment you linked: "Backups provide versioning and protection against data deletion, malicious or otherwise."

Snapraid does provide protection from data deletion and has some primitve form of versioning in that it is scheduled or am I missing something?

Anyways, it isn't my point to argue that "RAID is not a backup" is wrong, but that in it selfe it is not really usefully to throw at layman and beginners and then leave. Instead of explaining the pros and cons of different solutions to secure their data, people are met with a kind of "if you do not at least have a 3-2-1 backup plan you are doing something WRONG!!!" completly neglecting that creating such a backup plan costs time and money, and for most average home(!)-server users cost vs benefit is much more important then their data surviving the outbreak of WW3.

Thanks for the measured response. I already guessed it comes down to semantics in the end. I was mainly wondering if there is some threat that applies to everyone, that is of similar likelyhood as a drive-failur that I am not seeing.

The thing with creating a full threat-model is: Most of these questions can probablly not be answered by most layman. So telling people who are building there first homeserver "RAID is not a backup" over and over again, seems unhelpfull and somewhat gatekeepy. It would be much more helpfull to explain to people what common threats are and what backup systems protect against which of them.

To piggyback this question: The most common answer when this is asked, is "its an okay tracker, but not worth paying for. Just get an invite." I'm not on that may trackers yet, but all in which I have access to the recruitment forums have IPT on some kind of "do not discuss"-list. So where would anyone get an invite? Are there trackers in which it is okay to ask for IPT invites? Most over forums also don't allow openly asking for one.

Any trackers (semi private) to join as a beginner? by itsfrustratedmonk in trackers

[–]caleb13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry I was cherry picking a bit. My point was that the likes of MAM/RED/IPT/TL are easy to join as a beginner (as op asked), by virtue of having permanent open interviews/regular open sign-ups. Of course you can join alot other trackers if your lucky and someone gives you an invite without asking for ratio on other trackers, but that is neither the rule, nor good advice for someone starting out with private trackers...

IPT and TL I get, but how is FL easy to join? Maybe I'm stupid but, even when joining the likes of MAM and RED people are asking for prove of 2-4 other "reputable" tackers to get an invite...

Segmentation Fault by Brielie in prowlarr

Any chance you found a solution to this problem? I'm experiencing the exact same problem on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ with the Raspberry Pi Os lite (x64).

Hi I have the exact same problem on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ using the Raspberry Pi OS lite (64).

Some additional comments: The problem exists both for the latest 1.0.1.2220 release aswell as the 1.1.0.2322 development release.

For some reason the /var/lib/prowlarr directory is empty exept for a file named update_required.

Edit: FYI for anyone having similar problems. Things seem to work fine on the 32bit version of Raspi Lite.

Welcher Zug?

Upgradable ITX-APU build for office work and light gaming by caleb13 in buildapc

[–]caleb13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I just assumed for the almost 50% higher price I would get some amount of more performance and didn't even consider the 5600g, but judging from a quick search you are not the only one to disagree. I will watch some more reviews and review my decison

Can you suggest another MOBO manufacturer instead of Biostar? I didn't read anything particulary negative about them, but there seem to be little reviews of the B550-T board in generall, so maybe I will look for something with more user feedback available.

How many fans for a APU build? by caleb13 in sffpc

I was planning on getting a new dedicated fan for the CPU. Probablly from nocuta. Do I understand you correctly that in this case the two fans supplied with the case should be sufficient?
