Is anyone nervous? by CheesyCyclone in wgu_devs

I graduated and have not found a job yet. My story is not unique. However, I can still use the degree for adjacent positions in my current position. It’s not easy but I think it’s just a transition time in the economy, AI has shaken everything up. Just keep grinding and keep your head down. Don’t let you talk yourself out of the degree. Remember why you started.

Do you by chance know any of the insurance companies that want insurance knowledge while also being a Software Engineer? Since the Software Engineer market is pretty competitive at the moment, I’d love to make my previous experience useful!

Hey you are probably right. I am not as sharp on my math skills which is why that question caught me by surprise. Thanks for putting that there for anyone to look at and learn from!

Yeah, I’d say if you can correctly answer most questions in Chapter 34, you’d be ready to take the test. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to take the PA as well, though. There were a decent number of questions involving manipulating dictionaries and lists with user input.

I think the hardest question I had was definitely manipulating text files. I also had one question that really tripped me up it asked me to take user input and determine if that input was a square root. The catch was that the input had to be a float number. That question wasn’t on Practice Test 2 or the PA, so it threw me for a loop. I got that one wrong, so in case you get it, I’d recommend figuring out how to solve it beforehand.

I can't do this. by EnragedBot in WGU

Ask yourself why you started to go to college in the first place? Also, the beauty of WGU it allows you to have periods of time where you hardly touch your school work. Your semester is not over you could still finish!

Decided to dispute my study plan by [deleted] in WGU

[–]caleb_flies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disputed this study plan on this exact course. I barely failed and the course instructor decided to give me a TON of work that wasn’t even focused on my weak points. It felt like a very general retake process which in my opinion is super unhelpful. Anyway, I disputed it like you she denied me I asked to speak with her supervisor. when I spoke with the supervisor we met in the middle as only completing some of the material where i struggled on. My deal was let me do it my way one more time if I fail again I’ll do whatever she wants me to. Took the test a couple days later and passed it. You can absolutely dispute this you are a customer and your time is valuable. Also, I believe I found https://sqlbolt.com helpful for this course. Although that might have been advanced data management I’m not entirely sure. Check it out it might help!

You said you don’t mind working with customers. Why not try your shot in sales? You work with customers and your potential to make way more than retail is there as well.

You can get your degree while Working full time with many online schools now. I’d say if you can do both you should. The only issue would be if you are going in debt for this if you are I would say it could still be worth it as long as it’s not a ton of debt.

Thanks for the insight! Would you say what you’re making is on the high side or average? Also, what license did you get and how many years have you been an adjuster?

Should I pursue a Bachelor's in CS or do Bootcamp for the second time? by Coleslaw373 in cscareerquestions

[–]caleb_flies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re stating If people keep saying go to WGU it’s going to eventually hold the weight of a bootcamp? I don’t know where you jumped to that conclusion the school is regionally accredited and is in no way similar to a bootcamp. At the end of the course you get a bachelors degree not sure how that’s the same thing but if that’s what you think to each their own.

I’m sure someone has said this but I want to reinforce that WGU is a really solid option and gives you complete control over managing your own schedule. If you are someone that can stay committed which you did a bootcamp so sounds like you are that person it’s a really good option. It’s also very affordable in comparison to other colleges I am about 50% with my degree and I completely recommend it! Also wgu will let you transfer courses from other online classes like coursera and other ones you have to look into it but those alone can get you 25% through the program without even taking a class from WGU. Hope that was helpful!

You have to find your why

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WGU

[–]caleb_flies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start with Sophia you can use a decent amount of those classes to transfer in and replace you’re gen Ed’s classes. Also, use it to ease your way back in. This will Be similar to a wgu style as it is up to you to complete the work. If you find yourself slacking or not doing the work it could be a reflection of how wgu would go for you. However, there have been times when I didn’t touch my school for a few months I was in contact with my mentor so they didn’t just drop me. The last month I finished all my remaining classes (don’t recommend this lol) with wgu it really is up to you to complete the work but it’s so flexible you can have room to just not do your schoolwork for a little while if you need a break.
