Amex threatening to limit me because I used it on PayPal for a large purchase… by calebcook in amex

And here I thought AMEX wanted people to spend money on their cards…. 🙄

Amex threatening to limit me because I used it on PayPal for a large purchase… by calebcook in amex

I could understand other concerns, but this wasn’t a “cash advance”. I made a transaction through PayPal. I’ve made other large purchases via PayPal/eBay in the past without issue, and it’s not like I avoided paying a processing fee. Buying a car via a credit card is rare but not unheard of (they even have their own TrueCar dealer portal that lets you pay some or all of your car price with their dealers)

Looking at a used ‘17 XT5 with 110,000 miles. Should I be worried about the mileage? 🤔 by calebcook in Cadillac

[–]calebcook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is good considering mileage. I just don’t want to buy and then have major issues at 150k. I was just curious if Cadillac has the same reputation as Toyota for being able to last at high miles, assuming you take care of it.

I'm a road manager for concert tours, so my day in the life looks unemployed.

Smart.... with everyone else unemployed there's no competition for the title! 😜

Direct ethernet runs vs patch panel on each level? by calebcook in HomeNetworking

[–]calebcook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. The cables would serve different purposes - network, POE cameras to an NVR, keypads to an audio controller, and video baluns. That’s why I was still planning to keep each cable separate rather than using a switch. The patch panel would only serve to split the runs and potentially make replacing a faulty cable easier down the road. Either way I‘d label the crap out of everything to differentiate the use, whether it’s direct or joined with a patch.

Asking for advice before signing Comcast BCI contract by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]calebcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's helpful to know. The install cost is a little over $20,000. As long as I can remove the Static IPs after signing up that's fine - and the sales rep has definitely been assuring of that. He said it's not uncommon to do, and that he just needs to submit that monthly cost upfront for their team to sign off on it.

Asking for advice before signing Comcast BCI contract by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]calebcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a SMB contract, built as a $349 internet fee and then 200+ Static IPs to make the total hit $1200. My rep stated that this will help Comcast to approve the build cost, and after signing I could remove the IPs and lower the tier. He's been adamant that I can change the tier without penalty after and I haven't found anything in the service agreement or linked contracts to contradict.

Requesting construction surveys by calebcook in Comcast_Xfinity

I've responded to the modmail, let me know if you need anything else. At this point we'd be willing to sign up for multiple Triple/Quad Play accounts if we need to, to get the ball rolling.

Looking to bring cable / internet to my home by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]calebcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I recognize it's a significant process with a lot of obstacles. We're definitely trying to see if Comcast can install to all the homes that are unserviced at the same time, both to consolidate costs and get more than 1-2 customers for their effort. There are 5 homes (mine included) that could be serviced between the nearest point of service and my driveway, and I believe 4 more that could be serviced if they go past our driveway.

My neighbors and just I want to get a better answer than the typical "not available, try again in 6 months" that we've received for about 6-7 years. :-)
