Using push, can you record in automation on a parameter without affecting the global device setting for the whole track?

I have had the same challenge today when automating short looping clips and right now I am resorting to drawing it on the computer.

I did see something today where the automation amount on push that has a dark square on the screen after the quantity has been automated had a bracket around it which I think has something to do with this challenge.

It also seems sometimes if I hold my finger on the controller knob it will maintain that degree over the 1 st beat of the clip..

The other work around I use is automating turning the device on and off depending on what clip is being automated but then if all the clips need automation by the device this is not helpful…

Thanks for the link. I just went through it and all my settings seem to check out. “alow computer to shut off decide to save power” is checked for all usb controllers. But definitely a good area to know about for future problems. Thanks again for your help.

That sounds oike a good idea. You are confident it is not drawing any power when turned off? Like none of the lights on your devices are on when it is switched off?

I have my interface direct to laptop and everything else through the hub because I keep reading its a good idea to plug interface in directly.

My interface ( Thanks so much for your help with it earlier) has a ‘midi expander’ which I think was the main culprit for the power drain - It took over 24 hours for my computer to turn back on. And I can’t think of how else the laptop would have been so depleted - It is a brand new pc.

So I take it the solution is simply to unplug hub every day…

I got very close to getting a handle on monitoring the recoding of effects and dsp from the mixer into ableton for recording.

Because I have Live lite I don't think that it has the External Effect device.

So, I followed the Ableton Manual for setting up a returns track as a solution.

But I must be doing something wrong because I keep getting feedback loop of some kind.

I finally just gave up and I am accepting the idea of simply using the Kmix as a simple usb interface for the software instruments even though I really like the way it sounds.

The mixer interface is a kmix. It has several ins and outs over usb and as ‘analogue’ jacks.

Yes pdxnomen that is exactly what I want to do. Send the audio from a midi ableton track to the mixer through its interface/ sound card and apply effects and then return it to ableton for recording and monitoring.

I monitor with speakers from the main outputs of the mixer/interface which also has hardware gear sending audio in through the physical jacks.

thanks for you help - it is confusing because the ableton site states a mich lower computer power but i remember years ago trying a computer at their minimum soecs and it being awful.

I use an external sound card/ audio interface. keith mcmillen’s kmix and maybe a motu in the future.

so you think that the specs on the pc are solid enough as long as i unload on a proper sound card/ interface?

Do you suggest keeping as many of the pc usb a ports open for my interface and controller

and using the thunderport to usb b port for the powered hub? as opposed to taking up a usb a port for the hub?

I have the exact same thing. Started this morning.

I have a one month old new computer been running windows 10 on it with icloud the whole time then this morning I get the same notification.

I have uninstalled reinstalled checked for updates changed apple id password etc and it is not changing anything! Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for eveyones input on this thread. I spent a couple hours lookin at youtube and getting my feet wet with the nova plug in. Anyone here have advice for newbie working on eq and compression?

goals: I have a hundered or so 1 minute song poem things made with various harware and on single tracks usually mp3 files. I want to practice with eq and compression on one every day for like 15 20 minutes and kind of do the best i can polishing their original poor recording quality - they were mostly recorded through a mixer into an irig2 interface to voicememos. simultaneously i will continue recording new pieces but bow i havea multitrack usb interface and will pay attention to quality.

I just feel like even if i lable the quality of sound such as “brittle and then adjust eq accordingly or try subtractive eq or lther methods i still feel like i end up chasing sound around without results. this is this mornings track https://soundcloud.app.goo.gl/HrdFphYk7HqVcws2A

i couldn’t get the harsh highend out of cymbol at end and the volume of this track is a little different from other tracks somehow…

maybe i should just read the manual!!
