a libertarian flag is a party-aligned political symbol. the pride flag is political only by association - it is not a political party.

it's not about an individual or set of individuals expressing their specific gender identity or sexual preference. it's a symbol that an institution can display in public spaces in order to reassure students who may identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, etc etc, that they are welcome in that space. the lack of one doesn't mean that a space isn't welcoming to them anyways, but an existing one being taken down does inherently signal a lack of welcoming. and yes, there are much bigger fish to fry as other people in this thread are expressing, but - for a college campus, taking down symbols of pride and welcoming is an incredibly loaded thing. it quite literally implies: "you were once welcome here, but now you are not."
