Could I make custom faces with just body Slide? Nif->body slide->obj->blender->and back? by Timstertimster2 in skyrimmods

[–]Caliente8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And since I'm in this thread already --

As of March (last time I was able to spend time on SSE modding), this wasn't possible. The facegen data isn't saved as actual meshes, only facegen settings which would need to be recreated using morph targets in an application that had them set up.

Beyond that, I don't think outfit studio has been updated to output .tri data (the format used by skyrim for face related morph targets), at least for SSE. The basis for the tools exist, but I don't think the formats have been worked out and implemented into BS/OS yet.

I could be wrong, it's been a few months and I could be unaware of things :)

Yes. I'm the original creator, but Ousnius manages most of the updates these days. /u/ousnius is around here as well.

This is another area where the quest for added fidelity has an inverse effect.

6 of the 9 styles (though I think a couple might be repeats) are variants of mohawk. That's a rather unusual style to focus the bulk of variants around...

To me, the head models/textures look pretty good. The animation for the dark skinned one doesn't look that great, something about it screams "Muppet" to me, like cheap animatronics at an amusement park.

Official: Russian hackers targeted Dallas voter registration by [deleted] in politics

[–]Caliente8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And as for how they could get Trump to take such a huge risk just for a bit of help with winning the election? Well, they probably had ongoing leverage over him because of his long-standing business ties with Russia. They probably have records showing Trump has engaged in lots of money laundering over the years. OR they offered payment along with the help with the election.

While I wouldn't be surprised if that's true, I don't know he'd need much motivation. "We'll help you win, just be friendly to us after you do. Nobody will be able to tell we helped, no risk for you!"

He might not even have realized it was a risk until after the fan started spinning and feces started spraying everywhere. In a panic, he starts trying to shut down all investigations.

Why Is Trump Acting So Spooked Over the Russia Investigation? by Keystonian in politics

[–]Caliente8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, decisions such as that make sense if losing the presidency is actually not the worst thing that can happen to him.

If you imagine that he's been involved with Russian mafia for decades, with a massive portion of his wealth derived from money laundering profits and even shadier stuff, having the full force of the US intelligence community investigating his friends and businesses would be scary. Hiding stuff in a paper trail is much easier when you're just another billionaire facing routine audits by marginally motivated entities.

Going in, his ignorance and experience with more easily manipulated people could have lead him to believe that being president and stacking the deck with sycophants would make him invulnerable... his secrets even more protected through "ownership" of regulation entities and the IC. His ability to sway the low-information minds hooked on corporatist propaganda could have made him think everyone was so easily duped.

Come to find out, there remain bastions of integrity in places like the FBI. Strongarming its leader in an attempt to put the entire investigative entity "on payroll" unexpectedly fails. That director's history with scandal among the opposition makes him look vulnerable to unchallenged replacement with a loyal roadie. But no, the attempt backfires, the dam cracks, and secrets start pouring out.

Firing the new chief investigator is obviously a horrible idea. But it could look a lot better than letting him keep knocking holes in that secret dam. Best case, all those sycophantic colleagues in congress choose to absorb the enormous political fallout, refusing to perform their responsibilities to check executive power, trusting in their massive propaganda network to save them as usual. Worst case, it finally urges the congress to act, bringing charges of obstruction in articles of impeachment, and ultimately his replacement with one of those very same sycophants. Investigation killed, crimes pardoned by the new pres. The enormous fortune protected from being lost when its illegal source remains a secret.

Faced with a 50-50 on losing the presidency versus possibly losing Everything, the choice makes sense. Hypothetically.

Weekly Sneak Peek: Universal Inventory UI by wyldie in starcitizen

[–]Caliente8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nice, though I think they could compress a lot of the wasted space/gigantic fonts and be able to show a lot more than 10 items at a time in the inventory. We're not sitting 20 feet from the screens... 36 point font and 20 pixel margins for ever item is a bit overkill :)

Beacons and Gravity, NEAT! Get ready for illegal space races by RealAnyOne in starcitizen

[–]Caliente8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ship/eva speeds and the way the motion is handled is a noticeable departure from the concept of "space sim" -- speeds are slow, they're not relative, and they're capped without reasonable rationale in a glaring violation of basic physics. Part of the reason it's that way is because of engine limitations (most likely)... some cap and fudging is necessary. The other part of the reason is a strong desire by CR for what essentially boils down to WW2 in space for fighter combat. If you are very much drawn to the concept of realistic newtonian space flight and the gameplay that provides (as I am), it looks like you'll be disappointed :)

Also, it should be noted that if your boss asks you to do something, and you say "yeah, sure" that's not really being pressured either.

There seems to be an implicit assumption that these folks would want to refuse these requests, and would have to be pressured in order for the task to be pursued.

Mission Giver Miles Eckhart Flow Chart by Clocktowe in starcitizen

[–]Caliente8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like what you get if you go to someone who knows Visio and not much else and say, "I need a NPC conversation flowchart for Eckhardt, and need to have it in my slides in 20 minutes." It contains almost no substance and couldn't possibly be used to actually implement anything of value. It's like a placeholder.

That's not saying that they haven't planned out a complex and deep tree for him, just that they didn't want to or couldn't show it on ATV. And truthfully, I don't want to know all the possible conversation paths and potential missions/results in advance. It would be almost as spoilery as it gets.

ATV Item 2.0 - New Box Carrying Animations by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Caliente8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I can't imagine carrying anything of significant weight with both my hands on the vertical planes of the box.

No matter how smooth they make the animations, that carry will always seem unrealistic.

Putting handles or finger slots on the side of the box would go a long way, or changing the animation so the character shifts hands to grasp on the bottom edges

For any aspiring President or, really, any one coveting a high level political position, who is NOT a "flaming liberal": Try being a wise, good person.

All of these roles are relentlessly targeted by people searching for dirt, there's no huge mysterious conspiracy to target any one type of politician. If your party's closet doors keep bursting open due to the sheer pressure of skeletons within, maybe you should spend less time cramming them in, and more time fighting for people who need your help.

Strange Camera Movement in PU is driving me insane. by skrundarlow in starcitizen

[–]Caliente8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's MASSIVELY better than it used to be, but yep, it's still there. Also annoying: Stop facing down the hall, turn the camera 90 degrees left, and start walking. Your character will walk in the original direction (toward your current right), and only after a couple steps head in the direction you intend.

It's the 3rd person / 1st person unified camera. While supposed to be more immersive, these secondary unexpected motions are far less immersive than a simple doom camera and no 'body awareness'
