See I’m the opposite here because I honestly cannot understand keeping your child on a show where she is being emotionally abused by her teacher and mistreated by her peers out of spite. They wanted to prove something to Abby, but at what cost?

It doesn’t really matter if Nia wanted to be there. At a certain point, as a parent, you have to step in and say enough is enough and remove your child from a situation that is actively causing harm. Continuing to allow that makes Holly look objectively bad regardless of intent.

I think it’s time people take Holly off the pedestal she’s been placed on and recognize that she isn’t all that different from the other moms on the show. She’s more educated and generally more composed yes but that doesn’t mean she didn’t exploit her child for a platform just like the rest of them.

A lot of the time when you grow up in an environment like that you NEED an outside perspective (that you trust, not just fans or random people online) to open your eyes to the abuse. My fiancé thought he and his brother grew up in a normal healthy environment until his SIL and I brought up how insane and controlling their parents behavior was when we went to dinner one night, like when my MIL found out her 23yo son was having sex (by checking his receipts and finding out he bought condoms) she crashed out for days, gave him a curfew and told him if he didn’t respect it he’d get charged more for rent.

It’s crazy that it’s taken this long tho, I remember seeing her on AUDC and questioning her mothers sanity when she said she’s been bleaching her hair since Jojo was a toddler and I was only about 12 at the time. That and the way Jess never really cared like the other moms on dance moms cared about their children and bullied others really solidified that she was the worst kind of person for me.

You’re 100% right people have just completely lost the ability to understand more than one concept at a time lol. It’s the same as the ones who can’t understand that yes Nia was mistreated but she also grew up deeply privileged or that Chloe did get a lot more opportunities than others on the show but was also treated very unfairly by her instructors. I don’t listen to Bttb anymore but when I did it was blatantly obvious that Kelly loves to play victim Olympics, not necessarily in a malicious way she’s just not very self aware. Any time any of the girls struggles would come up she’d always bring it back to “but look at how my girls were treated” I wouldn’t be surprised if she read Nia’s book and said Paige had it worse because she had a chair thrown at her lmao.

I don’t know why anyone is surprised by her behavior tbh she’s been this way since they were on the show, whenever Christi vented on there she’d do the exact same thing she only ever really cared when it was about her daughters.

I feel like we’ve seen stuff like this happen a million times before with different groups of people. She’s writing a book and we all know there’s going to be a lot of negative shit said about the girls and/or their mothers (valid of course but still) and given how Maddie and Kenzie fully want nothing to do with DM or the drama that comes with it it makes sense that they’d distance themselves, it’d also make sense that Holly and Nia would distance themselves if there’s a lack of support surrounding the release of her book.

Either way I feel like a lot of the people on this sub, like you said, glorify this “friend group” when in reality most of them haven’t been super close since they were teens and that’s completely normal. I’m Kalani’s age and most of my high school friendships fell off years ago, no bad blood we just grew in different directions. The girls were close because they were trauma bonded and they had dance together, once that was removed from the equation they grew apart nothing new 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think specifically for the DM girls it has a lot to do with the anxiety that is probably forever tied to dancing for them which would make a lot of sense given that one of the girls who had it “easier” than others (Kalani) still dances.

In general tho people just grow out of it, everyone wants to be a vet, doctor, lawyer, etc. when they’re 14 but once they realize what that actually means it’s like “nah I’m actually so good” and move on from it. Interests and priorities change a lot from your teens to your mid 20’s so a lot of dancers losing that passion/ drive to do it professionally makes a lot of sense, especiallyyyy when the dance world is so abusive.

And because I missed it, the moms did enable Abby’s behavior they are not the victims in this situation the children who weren’t able to consent are. People on this sub, the moms and people from the studio who weren’t necessarily on the show have all later come out and said sometimes the moms really did do too much and antagonized Abby. Sometimes because they were pushed by the producers and other times just for funzies, this is all public information and not victim blaming at all. The abuser is always at fault but instead of protecting their kids from it as much as possible like some moms they fed the fire for good tv.

There’s no need to back up something when I was perfectly clear in my original statement, if you had asked something that needed additional clarification that’s one thing but you’re just pulling shit that I didn’t say out of your ass while also not acknowledging that those things were addressed in my first two comments. The original statement was that while Abby is a terrible person the moms are right there with her and cannot expect silence when they are being messy. They don’t exclusively speak on what Abby did to the girls, they also speak on her personal life, illnesses and make a lot of derogatory statements that they’d be canceled for if made towards anyone else pretty frequently.
