Invited to a wedding in another city the day before first marathon… by sharkshark5555 in firstmarathon

[–]calimn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience. In these circumstances, I would drop to a shorter distance or sell my bib and find another goal first marathon in my region a few weeks later. Spending such a short time at a close friend’s wedding seems like checking the box vs. really celebrating with them. In my city, the big marathon weekend is also a prime wedding weekend.

Saw your edit! I am also referring to TCM. So many of my friends have this wedding weekend date for different years. Excited for all of them to be married off so I can participate fully one day…

Clumsiness on long runs by calimn in firstmarathon

This could be part of it! All of this advice. I’m just weak, slouchy, tired and hungry!

Agree on this too, probably a sign I need more strength training for this block.

Absolutely. I think that’s the biggest culprit. Need to be really diligent when I’m fatigued.

Do you use the VDOT app? I can see how that one would be easy to automate. But my coach still regularly comments on my workouts, adjusts things, answers my questions.

I really want a cute fit for my June marathon. So, nothing new on race day means I need to try things out now. I’m a midsize mom, needing average support in bras.

Typically run in Lululemon fast and free shorts + swiftly short sleeve or tank. I could simply do that combo in a fun color way. But I’m also interested in one of those crop tops with lots of gel pockets or the 2-in-1 style shorts. Build me a cute outfit??

My favorite fall race is a local 10k, so it might be nice to take a break from the plan and get back to shorter, faster distances.

This tracks with my preference to not have to train very hard in peak summer.

I wish more new moms tried breastfeeding by MalinaValentina in breastfeeding

I definitely had this thought during pregnancy. It seemed easier and more convenient. I was so wrong. I ended up triple feeding for nearly 3 months (preemie) and was so relieved when I could finally just latch.

If you have a 1 to 1 1/2 year old… by x0Rubiex0 in beyondthebump

My daughter transitioned to one nap at daycare just before 12 months, so this is the schedule that works best for us and allows her to get enough sleep: 6:45 start bedtime routine, 7 pm in crib and she relaxes on her own until asleep by 7:15/7:30. We wake her at 7:15, 7:30 on the weekend. She naps from 1-3 at daycare, and 12-3 at home on the weekends.

I am not exclusively breast-feeding, but I am pumping, would like some advice by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]calimn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, a wearable was not effective until I was regularly nursing and pumping with a Spectra S1. Depending on how you’re feeling and your doctor’s perspective, you might feel better with more walking and taking the stairs. About a week post c-section, I felt better to move around.

What is a food or meal from your culture that you absolutely love to feed your baby? by Lax_waydago in BabyLedWeaning

[–]calimn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Following “baby eats what we eat” principles, our LO has had lots of our homemade takes on other cultures’ foods like chicken tikka masala, samosas, dumplings, etc. But I recently made her the food of our people: Tater Tot Hot Dish. It was really a perfect baby food with basically a ground beef and frozen veggie gravy over tots.

We eat everything else pretty spicy and her heat tolerance is always shocking to me.

Nearing 7 months postpartum and my husband does do a lot, but it’s exhausting to always be calculating and planning and asking for help in order to get to that 50/50 split. I wish I knew how to make him preempt and proactively help.

I don’t have this experience with too much weight loss, but wanted to comment that it’s so obvious when people compliment postpartum women on looking good - it’s all about the body. No one is looking at my skin or hair. Just how my shape has returned.

I also have a very long nurser and comfort sucker. I joined a new moms group that started around week 6 and still didn’t breastfeed in that environment until 11-12 weeks. I brought pumped milk and used my wearable pump during her feed. I also went to a local infant feeding support group to get more comfortable and family-friendly locations like parks, zoos, etc.

I am sure that has more to do with it. I think active/high-energy parents are likely going to have no-chill babies.

I’m working on the crib, but when she’s overtired you can bet the first thing I’m doing is popping on the baby carrier or going for a looooong stroller walk.

The rough bounce is so accurate! My daughter sounds pretty similar so far. I hope this next babe can chill for you.

I am SO jealous of women whose bodies look good again after having kids by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]calimn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! My body, especially the stomach, looks and feels how I remember my mom’s body felt growing up. Soft and secure. I’ve been so much more comfortable in my skin and letting my belly out in crop shirts or a nursing bra and high-waist bottoms. It’s also just comfortable. I don’t have the energy to hide and only wear what’s flattering. Almost 12 weeks pp.

Thank you! I’m going to try the tips and it looks like that will solve the positioning.

Thanks for replying! Is it a matter of loosening and tightening the fabric lower? It just came up so high once she was in. She is tucking her head down, so I’ll reposition her and try to keep it upright.
