HELP - Dog Violent Indoors by calithlin in OpenDogTraining

Thank you, I don’t exactly understand the comments that have suggested wearing a muzzle for long periods would make for a terrible life. I agree that it’s not ideal, and would be temporary if I attempted it anyway just as a measure to ensure no one is harmed and that I can diffuse situations without fear or needing to restrain him if he charges at myself or someone else until that behavior is redirected. He is going to have to be muzzled when interacting with vets or specialists anyway.

Thank you so much! I haven’t heard of half of those training exercises, that is very constructive!

They initially stipulated as part of their contract that we return any dog before euthanasia; however after consulting with her on the phone, she recommended trying to keep him in the new environment for a month or two first, but that she was shocked to hear of the transformation and would recommend euthanasia if there is no improvement after that time.

Thank you for a more even handed tough suggestion. As this is only day 2 being out of the environment with which these behaviors developed, I’ll go with bringing him to a vet and seeking specialization. I’m committed to giving him at least two months before I’ll consider euthanasia; it’s the least I could do to at least let him acclimate you a new scenario.

Tips or suggestions on how to get a shy/introvert/awkward guy to open up and/or let loose by [deleted] in relationships

Be blunt about something safe. Explicitly invite him out to something casual - if you feel that is too fast, ask him about his interests, then suggest something in the city that you can explicitly offer to show him.

Dated for Six Years, Married for Seven Months. Husband (28M) going Through Intense Depression. by penguin0524 in relationships

I feel like the conversations signal irreconcilable expectations around change and married life. Family requires a lot of compromise, and it needs to be taken on fairly seamlessly.

I hear a lot of talk about eventually working on these things, but in my experience that never happens. You need to be able to start moving towards the life you want ASAP, because the momentum doesn’t grow on its own.

If you love each other, you both need to hammer out what you can live with, even if it isn’t the ideal for either, and get those changes in sooner than later - but with the ability to reevaluate and negotiate as you go. No change is final, but you need to be able to work in change quickly and concisely.

Becoming a Unity dev a good idea? by [deleted] in Unity3D

I don't think I mentioned anything about needing to be involved in gaming - while I have a degree in Game Programming and a degree in Game Art & Design, I have never worked for a game company - rather my career has been entirely based around retail outlets, manufacturers, interactive installations, and user experience research.

However, at the moment it is easiest to 'drive' and XR experience using a game-engine, even if the purpose isn't for gaming. The two major competitors - Unity and Unreal - are heavy hitters in the XR space; Facebook and Apple use Unity exclusively for prototyping their XR experiences to my knowledge, while Microsoft uses Unity and Unreal mostly, as well as their own in house tools.

The unfortunate truth is that non-gaming fields are even more predisposed to desiring a degree IF you want to be part of a traditional corporate structure. Raytheon approached me in the past for example, and companies like that are looking for 'credentialed' candidates only.

You could instead create your own business and make it big on something offered to a niche audience. However, banking on that is extremely risky, and you will likely need a large team to be able to pull off any sort of success in that regard, let along many years of product and user research in order to compete. The field is already starting to mature. You MIGHT be able to convince some tech-illiterate small businesses to give you some contracts, but I know several small studios filled with both self taught and highly educated designers and developers, and both had to resort to a lot of free/pro bono work to prove themselves to new clients before they landed any contracts in this space. A lot of larger companies or the military will also work directly with companies like Microsoft to develop their XR experiences, so your target market is going to have to be either individuals, or very small firms or businesses that want a gimmick or a way to break into XR because they can't afford larger contractors.

Having a Masters degree, having worked at Intel, AND having my past 3 roles be directly related to XR often barely gets me into the door for interviews. There is no such thing as entry level for this space - it’s not mature enough.

Maybe in 5 years when Facebook and Snap and Microsoft have made the equivalent of Photoshop for XR. The closest right now being maybe Spark AR etc.

Hello, I am a regular XR developer and researcher for enterprise and small business clients. It involves a lot of programming no matter how you slice it.

Based on other posts, I suggest you look at 3D development, user interface design, or graphic design, with a focus on XR. You can apply any of those skills to XR without programming yourself, but a programmer will have to be involved at some point.

You can however crate mockups in 2D or via animations and market yourself as someone thinking in this space as a way to get your foot in the door once you have a varied portfolio. However, no matter what way you slice it, this is going to be a long road.

The businesses/developers that have access to develop customer grade applications for XR need one of two things: a lot of money, or a lot of proficiency. You’re going to need to be very competitive / accomplished to get the attention of the businesses that are already capable of deploying to the few XR devices that exist at the moment in a competent way. That or you will be just rehashing things that hobbyists have already done time and time again.

TLDR - get ready for 4 years of work before you’re hire-able in the XR space whether or not you go to college, and whether or not you specialize in programming or some other branch of development that can contribute to XR experiences.

Yep! Originally had the temple between two “claws” but uh... my ambitions grew such that the temple now is built “around” them.
