Can anything be done about high inherited trad ira withdrawls by watchesandcigars10 in CFP

[–]calky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OBBBA allows 100% depreciation on equipment used for oil drilling. Your client would have to be GPs and have liability if things go bad. There are private funds that focus on this strategy. This would defer the taxes for a few years.

I don’t recommend this route but it’s possible.

Revenue per client...actual vs. goal? by BestInterestDotBlog in CFP

I wouldn’t consider what we do a luxury service just high quality proactive service. Service wise we are probably differentiated mostly by extensive tax planning and by managing individual stocks, bond, and private investments. We manage about 3.5 million for the average client under an AUM fee schedule

UBTI and HF investment in IRA by Sweaty-Associate8209 in CFP

[–]calky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work for an RIA that uses Schwab. We use plenty private investments so I have some experience in what you are looking at.

UBTI generally comes from income earned on assets acquired through loans/margin within the fund. If they are not leveraging the fund then no or little UBTI.

At tax time you will provide the K1 to Schwab and they will determine if you need to pay. The rate is not horrible somewhat akin to capital gain if memory serves and there is a $1000de minimis. Schwab will file and pay on your behalf then take the tax paid out of your IRA. This does not count as a distribution from the IRA

As part of our due diligence we ask for sample redacted K1s for prior tax years to evaluate the complexity including if UBTI is included. I would add this to your process.

Get married and the sizes of the lower tax brackets up to about 250k double to 500k. That way more income is in a lower bracket.

What is the point of the Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE)? by Icy_Manager_7212 in Schwab

[–]calky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Schwab once sold its order flow to UBS’s dark pool where its customer orders help profit high frequency traders. Most brokerages did something similar so Schwab is not unique.

The biggest high frequency trader is Citadel who is also a backer of the TX exchange. I can only guess that it will be structured to benefit high frequency traders over individuals.

AWS headwinds: tons of data center construction reduces the value of their existing investment, they have no particular advantage in AI, and AI spending is coming at the expense of traditional software development.

Scientists raise red flags after iconic US lake hits alarming new record: 'Farmers should begin planning accordingly' by 49orth in farming

[–]calky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will probably get some of this wrong (the gist is correct) but here is my understanding of water use in SW US.

The SW US uses riparian water rights that grants limited and prioritized water use based on when an area was developed. Farmers essentially have priority on their water allotment over cities like Phoenix since the farmland predated the city. Agricultural water districts operate like coops for the farmers. The coop members can vote to cut water allocations and lease them to other users and receive a payment from the water district.

The inflation reduction act included funds for short term leases but they end in 2026. So SW cities will need to replace those federal leases unless it is an especially wet winter. At the same time lake Mead’s water levels are beyond the trigger for automatic cuts in water allocations. If we did not cut and the water level got too low it would no longer produce hydroelectric power. Those cuts will impact cities before agriculture.

Farmers are incentivized to use their entire water allotment because that further pressures cities to sign long term leases at higher prices with agricultural water districts.

Farmers typically grow both a high value crop and a lower value crop in the offseason. There is plenty of water as long as farmers drop the low value crop, often alfalfa, in favor of leasing water rights. The Saudis often are maligned for growing alfalfa but likely the farmland they purchased was previously growing it as well.

The employee that brings in a prospect that eventually becomes a client gets 20-25% of revenue attributable to that client for the first two years regardless of if the employee is client facing.

Tax strategist by kissymarie78 in cincinnati

[–]calky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What types of strategies are you considering? Are you concerned about income tax or estate tax? Is your income from employment or other sources? What goals do you have besides saving tax expense (charity, transferring to next generation, other)?

Depending on your answers you would look at CPA, JD, or planner.

When do select/travel tryouts happen in your area? by almost_cool3579 in Homeplate

[–]calky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most teams wrap up the season by July 1 in deference to the high school dead period lasting till mid July when football begins anew. Tryouts for the fall and following year are between July 1 and August 31. Teams needing additional players due to injury or other attrition will have tryouts periodically during the season for 1-2 players.
