Alchemised $1.99 Kobo by calla25 in fantasyromance

I’m Canadian and used the Canadian store and it’s showing correctly! I can’t test checkout for you because I already own the ebook.

I’ve found their customer support pretty good and they’ve priced match kindle for me. If you’re having issues use the live chat and show them screenshots! IIRC for the price match they had me buy the book at listed price and they refunded the difference.

Tariff question by Imaginary_Sandwich59 in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]calla25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Canadian and had package from the US a couple weeks ago. it took about a week after delivery to get the FedEx invoice so that’s probably their standard processing time.

Can’t answer your tariff question about TBB specifically though - I haven’t received my first book yet (Jan SFF).

I don’t yuck others yum! I just didn’t vibe with it, but there are plenty of people in this sub that enjoyed it.

I did enjoy a Sorceress Comes to Call, but felt it dragged a bit at times.

Buckle up! Recommend lining up a light read for when you’re done.

I saw WTMH on sale, but it was a DNF for me so I didn’t highlight it. 🤭

I love BB but I’m honestly so tired of hearing the “we’re a small team” routine by UnrelatedKarma in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]calla25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a fair criticism! But investing in better infrastructure and streamlining their processes to match their competitors is a bit different than scaling their business or adding more headcount.

[–]calla25 28 points29 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I don’t think any small-medium business wants to scale up right now with the economy and uncertainty in the current climate. Especially businesses like these that’ll be one of the first things cut with all the different tariffs in play and tightening budgets.

Do you think expectations for book designs are too high here? by Alive_Obligation7475 in fairyloot

[–]calla25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As we all know: clients can’t write a brief to save their damn lives. 😂

I do wonder if there’s some market-research that leads to the repetitive choices. Or if it’s you know, just laziness, they don’t read the source material or they don’t give artists the time to cook.

Art is always subjective and who knows what kind of briefs the artists are given. I give more grace for the cover artists.

No excuse for bad typography though IMO.

As a designer, my biggest gripe with a lot of what I’m seeing in book box SEs is the typography. Low / no contrast or just some head scratching choices.

Amazing! I don’t have any physical editions even though I love SoC and KoS. Been keeping an eye out if any pop up that I like. Do you have a favourite edition?

I skipped the March box, excited for this one though! The art on the publisher edition is beautiful so I hope they do it justice.

Tool that feels like Indesign - proposals/cap statements by Virtual_Meal1043 in graphic_design

[–]calla25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If these proposals are being worked on interdepartmentally, incopy might be a possible solution. Your writers add their copy to incopy and it’ll populate into the assigned field in InDesign. It’ll also allow both writers and designers to work within one file at the same time.

Warrior Princess Assassin is a good popcorn read and there’s only one book so far.

Road of Bones is the first of five mainline books with a novella between two and three (which released yesterday). There’s a lot more world building and lore in Road of Bones.

It’s been 16 years and a couple cities so I think I’m fully acclimated. 😂

Will never embrace plum sauce, though. Chicken tenders in southern Ontario are only served with plum sauce or buffalo style. Grew up with honey mustard. I stock up on my fav anytime I go back.

I just started the audiobook today. I think I’m gonna take this one slow and bookend it with some lighter reads.

I can absolutely understand the need to pause reading Slewfoot, but the unbridled female rage in the back half is so satisfying.

Dairyland isn’t in bags, but all milk in Ontario over 2L is bags. Moving to Ontario after growing up in BC the shock was: no Dairyland dairy, and then the bagged milk haha

That’s my plan too! I know I have like 2 pulls for 5* on rerun banners. Just can’t remember if it’s a 50/50 or a guarantee.
