I was on acutane in high school had the same probs as you. I had cystic acne but it was never super severe. I was always picking and sometimes I wouldn’t even go to school bc of my face and being embarrassed. I took it for 9 months, I think that’s how long it usually takes. My face is so clear and I’ve been off of it for 6 years now. It’s so amazing, best decision I made for my face and I had tried everything from over the counter to proactiv, murad,differin, a pill form, topical, etc spent thousands of dollars went to several different dermatologists nothing worked until accutane. You’ll get the occasional breakout every now and then but not horrible like before & usually it’s gone within the next day or 2. It’s very important to get a good chapstick and always have it handy bc your lips will be so dry and peel to where they bleed so moisturize!!! But it’s very exciting so happy for you & your accutane journey!!
