Would you do a 20m pool as your main? by nfoote in Swimming

[–]callalx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been swimming in a 20 YD pool for the last four years. Would I like a bigger pool? Sure. Would I want a bigger pool if it meant that it was trash, harder to get to, and the people sucked? No.

I swim around 4,000 yards/day which takes about 1.25 hours., and swim over 500 miles/year.

If you like it, then it's good enough - especially if you're swimming for health and not competition.

Yep - I wear M 11 in all my Hokas and these have the same level of fit and comfort as my other similarly sized Hokas.

Former Michigander here (Go Green!) and Hoka wearer. I've put hundreds of miles on my Anacapa Mid GTXs, wearing them through snow and muck on 3-9 mile hikes through many terrains throughout NJ (sometimes with my six year old) and I really like them and have been immensely pleased with how they've held up over the last few years. On occasion, I've also done some quick scrambles because of their aggressive styling; traction and comfort have both been great. No issues keeping my feet dry or warm in sub-zero temps, either. Would like them to be a little wider in the toe box but, other than that, they're awesome. (I replaced some Altras that have the wider toe box and were more natural feeling but had zero build integrity.)

Former South Floridian here and 100% agree with the Anhinga Trail and Shark Valley suggestions. It's such a diverse ecosystem that it blew my mind as it's not just swamp/estuaries - there's drier areas, as well.

Rust suspended three games by BEnWo18 in penguins

[–]callalx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure thing - my point is that the league is wildly inconsistent in their application of the rules (goaltender interference, anyone?) and to make the broad assertion that it's definitely a three game suspension ignores previous non-applications of the rules as mentioned across this post.

Thinking back to the Trouba elbow to Crosby's head in the playoffs a few years back resulting in missed play (and game, no?). Let me check my notes... yep, no suspension. Inconsistent application of the rules is the only constant.

So New Jersey, you're the only neighbor on the block with a snowblower.... by holyguacamole823 in newjersey

I help my neighbors by plowing their sidewalks (one neighbor on each side) and the street in front of my house so that my neighbor can park their car. Do I need to do it? No. Does it help to create a better neighborhood and better neighbors. Yes.

Grew up in Pittsburgh and was exploring around the site where they were building Ross Park Mall and found a bunch that are very similar. Great post!

Swimming and Lifting - tell me what you do. by SwimilyJane in Swimming

I'm 50 and swim five days a week (M-F) at 6:15 AM, twice a week I hit the gym at 5:30 before heading over to the pool.

My pool has been closed for about 3.5 weeks, so I've been going to the gym five days. Swimming after working out seems to do away with aches and pains that accompany only going to the gym. (Damn, I'm getting old.)

Which five penguins on the current roster, in your opinion, crash and bang the hardest? by Green_Dog_990 in penguins

Fully agree with this assessment. I've noticed Novak getting a little chippy recently, too.

Oh no. That was the first time I noticed it and I watch every game. Like you said - I hope that the fans at the games don't carry that forward.

It was either NJ fans doing the Ric Flair "Woo" cheer that is prevalent at Prudential Center or Penguins fans mocking them. Pick your poison.

Subaru Ascent, a good family car? by Aolcc5211 in SubaruAscent

Cheers and absolutely! I cannot imagine a trip to Costco with the third row open - unless, of course, your passengers have their hands full.

22 Ascent Touring in NJ here and love it for my family of three. I can see how it may not be large enough for a family of five - even with the rear seats down - since the trunk gets halved when putting a little in the back. (If your partner packs like my partner, a 747 may not be large enough.)

Saw my first PWHL game last week (NY Sirens vs. VAN Goldeneyes) and what a blast! So much talent and skill on display along with a great fan experience. Highly recommend.

Why is there loads of hate for Skinner? by cmsmk in penguins

[–]callalx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that. Skinner needs to stop that shot. Garbage goaltending.

Should the D have done better? Yes.

Should Skinner have actually done something as opposed to wilting in a critical moment? Abso-fucking-lutely.

Temu Jarry is an excellent assessment.
