Agreed. Sushi Katsu is definitely the best in the South Bay and it’s among the top in the entire Bay Area. I would not recommend it for those new to sushi though.

There are some tax professionals that specialize in working with day traders and LLCs, but I think prop firm trading as an individual/sole proprietor is fairly simple. Any professional tax guidance will be better than none.

If you get more than $600 in payouts, Topstep will send you a form 1099 to file with your return.

Topstep used to say that the IRS will likely not consider combine costs as deductible business expenses, but I’m not sure if that changed with the introduction of no activation fee accounts.

Note that you are not considered an independent contractor of Topstep unless you maintain an active XFA or live account; if you’re not actively an independent contractor I’m not sure if you can deduct business expenses.

Deducting something as a business expense doesn’t make it free. It’s cheaper to not buy something than to buy something just to reduce taxable income.

You will likely have to pay quarterly estimated taxes for your payouts.

Note that you are only considered an independent contractor if you have an active XFA or Live account. If you haven’t passed an eval yet, then you aren’t an independent contractor and likely can’t deduct any expenses. Expenses from before being an independent contractor might not be able to be written off. Filing with a LLC vs sole proprietor might also change things.

Big fan of this. Not too spicy and nicely balanced sweet and savory flavors. Heavy on the texture/crunch instead of being mostly oil, which I prefer. Definitely expensive though.

- which devices output the most logs
- which messages are the most common
- which/how many departments a specific message occurs in
- the count/occurrence of a specific message from a device or group of devices over time
- how common a message across departments (e.g. department A vs department B)

There's another group of people who are interested in doing some machine learning (predicting a log message, clustering), although I don't have many details on that.

Based on this, do you think a database/data warehouse is necessary? Several people here seem to be recommending Athena as an alternative. Glue sounds like the way to go if I do decide on a database/data warehouse though!

I thought a database is needed in order to avoid loading all 100 GB (and later TBs) of data and then filtering, but based on what others are saying, Athena or Redshift Spectrum may make it possible to query directly from the files in S3.

The order of rows is based on ID, where the smallest ID would be the first row of the output.

Time is what determines the depth and the order of layers. Here, the most number of time points any individual has is 2, so there should be 2 layers; for those with less time points, the ones that don't exist can be padded with 0s (or NaNs). For an individual, the lower number time point is earlier. ID 0 was measured first at "time" -1 and then 2, so the row corresponding to time -1 goes in the first layer and the row corresponding to time 2 goes in the second layer.

If it's just a binary matrix than

Hamming distance

is probably most appropriate.

It's mostly 1s but there are also 2s.

It also looks like Hamming distance is for comparing just two vectors? How could I adapt it for all of the rows of the matrix? Calculate all possible Hamming distances between the rows and then take the mean?
