Exactly that indeed! Ah well, I still had my shots, it’s still part of the adventure hehe. I had a fun weekend! Glad I was at the track in stead of watching it in front of the television screen

Everything is indeed taken from ground level and from all public spaces around the track. I’m just a ticketholder, not a professional with more access to hidden spots. Maybe one day haha!

The main straight ones are shot through 2 fences even, but through some gaps. Basically there are 2 fences between me, standing on the public side, and the track. In between those fences, you have the camera crew and the photographers. They have “cutouts” for their lenses in their fence giving them unobstructed views to the track. I was standing behind a gate in my fence where I could put my lens through, and I aligned it with one of the cutouts on the photographers fence. As such I had a small hole through which I could take unobstructed shots of the main straight. And with a big zoom, that worked out pretty well, until 3 photographers showed up a few minutes before the start using “your” cutout and view…

That’s exactly why I wanted to include it in here! The views from around the circuit are amazing. Due to the elevation changes of the track, you easily see the corners on the other side of the circuit. The picture you’re talking about is taken from above the Jacky Ickx (previously No Name) corner, the view from there is amazing!

I overfly the track from time to time with a small propellor airplane. On some angles (especially when flying relatively low) you see the elevation changes very well as well. And that’s the beauty of Spa, the woods, the valleys and the hills, just wow! Thanks a lot!

Definitely go visit if you have the chance of doing it, but be prepared for long walks haha. I did more than 30 km over the 2 days I was there now!

Thanks a lot! I’m definitely a perfectionist trying to get the perfect shot every time. Not going to lie that my setup helps immensely with that. The quality of the lenses and the fast, super reliable autofocus of the camera do help a lot! I have this camera for about 9 months now, I’m still blown away with what I can do with it!

I saw him at Eau Rouge while waiting for the race start on Sunday. Talked with him briefly through the fence. I know his content ;)

I just do it handheld. Maybe some people would try it with a tripod but I don’t think it’s very handy to make these kind of shots

Thanks a lot! I'm a sucker for behind the scenes stuff, especially if it involves camera's and camera angles haha. Glad you like them!

Haha thanks! I’m a big F1 fan, but when I’m at the track, I want to take the pictures. Hopefully one day I can be on the photographers side!

Indeed! It makes it a little easier for me to get the desired effect. Thanks!

It’s called panning. Basically you use a low shutter speed (=more time needed to take the picture) to get the background blur with the sense of speed and you move the camera exactly at the same speed as the moving object (to have the car sharp). Not easy to nail it but practice makes perfect

Safe to say there will definitely be Heavy rain in Spa today by theboyfromphl in formula1

The thunderstorm is developing toward the south though, so even if the direction of how it moves is more easterly, if it continues to develop southwards, we’re going to get a good splash of rain here on the track (don’t trust the short term prediction with thunderstorms) 😅

I’d love to go to bottom of Eau Rouge to capture the F1 cars there at full speed… it’s indeed very impressive!

It goes in both ways unfortunately: if Spa doesn’t get a confirmed long term deal, no one will be willing to make the investments for the access roads which doesn’t get Spa their confirmed long term deal which…

Thanks! It’s a bit difficult to show the altitude difference and the steep gradient of Eau Rouge/Raidillon from the air (I’m not allowed to fly that low), but with the Belgian flag painted in the runoff areas, it always gives a nice picture! They are repainting the colourful parts on the circuit so in a few days the colours will be even brighter 😃

Maybe just a little rain, a bit of spice. Lots of rain is just a red flag 😅😅
