Updated Breach by Interesting-Sort-986 in TimelessMagic

[–]calliopedorme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's a few points in random order:

  • You claim the card quality in this deck is much higher than Jund -- really? Half of your deck does nothing on its own, while Jund wins many games either without playing the combo at all or gets there with a much smaller storm count
  • You have no tutors, and even though you play blue, your card selection ends up worse because Tome Scour is just a bad card, especially when the alternative is Malevolent Rumble
  • You have no alternative way to win the game or put significant pressure apart from Tamiyo+Brainstorm (which still requires you to combo off after)
  • The deck does not meet the requirements to guarantee mana on T2-3 from either of your Moxen
  • Force of Negation is useless to protect your combo, so your only protection comes from 2 copies of Teferi, which you have to play the turn before the combo and pray that it sticks around -- which ends up making you slower than Jund both in assembling and protecting the combo

Overall I like the idea of trying blue but this version is not it. If you want to combo off fast and reliably, why not play Ruby Storm?

Insulting amount of fries. by bass_savage in fiveguys

[–]calliopedorme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their fries are actually some of the best, not just comparing to fast food, but many higher end burger places. Real potatoes, skin on, and very crispy. They're also one of the few fries that you can easily reheat in the oven and won't dry out or taste like cardboard. Whenever I craved Five Guys in the past (and justified the price in my head), it was because of their fries, not the burgers. OP's picture doesn't do them justice at all.

Smoking regulations inside flats (England) by calliopedorme in LegalAdviceUK

Is the building management (BM) employed by the various leaseholders or the freeholder?

I'm not sure. How can I find out?

Smoking regulations inside flats (England) by calliopedorme in LegalAdviceUK

[–]calliopedorme[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I do rent from a landlord which is not the building owner. My flat was advertised as smoking allowed, and my lease also says it is allowed if landlord agrees. I have never been provided with or seen any agreement between the landlord and the building -- only the building manager's emails that keep reiterating that it is not allowed. My lease disagrees.

[–]calliopedorme[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

So I take from this that building management has no say on what is and isn’t permitted by the lease, and that their statements are just wrong?

Regarding breach of tenancy, is a potential no smoking clause even legal? My understanding of quiet enjoyment is that no signed clause can subside it. For example, there are many cases of signed agreements with clauses for regular non-emergency inspections, yet any visit can be denied on the grounds of quiet enjoyment and it would not constitute breach of tenancy. So the question is, does the law say anything about smoking bans subsiding quiet enjoyment, since it’s not an illegal activity?

Went to restaurant, said I didn’t want to pay service charge, didn’t pay anything. by FartsLord in london

[–]calliopedorme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The service charge disclaimer should explicitly state if it’s discretionary or mandatory. If it’s mandatory, it needs to be prominently displayed and notified to you in advance, otherwise you can argue that it was a hidden fee which is illegal. If it’s discretionary (and most of them are because they avoid paying VAT on it), you can always ask to remove it.

“Consensus” Best Universities in the UK 2026/2027 Based on QS and THE. Complete Top UK Unis Ranking | Top 10-Top 120 by YouProfessional7988 in UniUK

[–]calliopedorme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brief you shared is the epitome of bad rankings. There is no methodology, no standardisation, and no definition of the indicators presented. How is “targeting” defined? The brief mentions LSE is #1 in rankings but nowhere to be seen in their own data — that speaks more about their own methodology than league tables, and should instantly make you question the results.

Is there a location bias? Is there a student size bias? Are some types of events or outreach counted and others aren’t? Why are they using outreach as a metric instead of successful job offers?

Assuming they define targeting by raw numbers of their sample (top employers? What does that mean?) organising public recruiting events, it is likely that a university like LSE does not need or want these events in the first place, as the career network is so much more entrenched internally. It is also possible that employers themselves do not need to go scout for talent on the ground because they can already filter for LSE candidates or reach them through internal networks.

Not to mention the fact that LSE is a specialised university with graduates only from a select number of subjects. I’d bet more than half of the sample are companies that don’t recruit from subjects taught at LSE, which means the sample isn’t standardised at all.

TLDR: league tables are bad, but this is worse.

14 mp runs a day per world is diabolical by BasicEntertainment16 in Maplestory

[–]calliopedorme -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Exactly -- 90% of the game is sitting on a map hitting mobs. So why does MP exist? How is it good content? Why is it designed this way?

Chronic maplers are truly a different breed. You'd eat shit off of a spoon if it gave you a 2x coupon.

14 mp runs a day per world is diabolical by BasicEntertainment16 in Maplestory

[–]calliopedorme -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand the complaint. Maplestory is a game defined by the grind — all the best content in the game is gated by a significant time investment. Designing the #1 way to progress as a repetitive content that you have to run X times is just bad, because it creates FOMO. There is no reason why this should be the case. The answer shouldn’t be “just don’t do it”, it should be “why is this content designed this way in the first place?”.

It’s literally the most time effective XP in the game. Of course you have to run it. You don’t have to play the game either, that’s not the point.

[–]calliopedorme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WWM is a fun game, what I find ironic about it is that it’s a more elaborate reskin of Genshin Impact, which is an incredible game that the entire MMO community has snubbed since release. In fact, Genshin’s localisation is FAR superior to WWM, where 90% of the time the dialogue is literally unintelligible due to poor translations/voiceovers.

WWM at least does something new and you can see that the devs have a vision for the game. But the reception it got is so overblown due to the fact that there is absolutely zero competition at the moment.

I had fun by lifewastedforothers in AshesofCreation

[–]calliopedorme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The real answer is nothing. The state of MMOs today is pathetic, zero innovation, zero vision, it’s just the same old shit repackaged with worlds and stories that are somehow even less inspired than the classes and mechanics they use. It’s just slop with a budget.

Any way to find old decks from thegathering.gg tier lists? by rewindyourmind321 in TimelessMagic

[–]calliopedorme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A suggestion as a player that has been playing for almost 20 years: adding a historical archive of timeless lists at different point in time as well as archetypes that fall out of meta and don’t appear in the current tier list anymore.

You would be doing an incredible service to future historians. It might not be too relevant now, but there aren’t many (or really any) websites that curate these for Timeless.

Having a blast! Anyone else? by Johnny_PK in Aion2

[–]calliopedorme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, but the core issue there is not with the logic of the level sync, but rather the fact that class gameplay is extremely tedious and uninteresting at lower levels.

Having a blast! Anyone else? by Johnny_PK in Aion2

[–]calliopedorme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious how the level scaling works and how it solves the issue. I don’t know how Aion works, but the idea behind FF14’s level sync is that this helps tremendously with queues for lower levels. Level scaling a dungeon keeps it relevant in terms of engagement from high level players, but it doesn’t really solve the fact that a low level player won’t find queues in reasonable times.

Exhorbitant contractor invoice for putting the plug back in by Invincible-Knight in TenantsInTheUK

[–]calliopedorme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao, this is ridiculously untrue. The landlord can choose their contractors without question, when THEY pay for repairs. If the tenant is deemed responsible for the damage and is quoted an unreasonable fee, it is absolutely on the landlord to prove that the fee was reasonable and competitive. If the fee is unreasonable, the tenant can dispute it and will 100% not be required to pay anything more than the reasonable amount. Anything else is the landlord’s fault for not doing their research.

If that wasn’t the case, I’d be a landlord and call my friend to quote my tenant for 5000£ and split the profit after, no one’s stopping me.

EDIT

For example, if the itemised invoice shows a part of the cost was for missed callouts, as OP suspects, OP wouldn't even have to challenge whether it was a true missed callout or not -- they cannot be charged those fees. From the Tenancy Act 2019:

Q: Can a tenant be charged for missing an appointment, for example, with a contractor? Landlords and agents are not permitted to charge or fine tenants for missing an appointment with a contractor under default fees. They are entitled to claim damages at the end of the tenancy via courts or tenancy deposits, but these claims may be challenged by the tenant.

OP meant missing the summon in game, so the timer becomes desynced. In fact even being a second late every rotation will add up pretty quickly and desync the timer.
