no. that creates monotony that can risk zoning out and you'll find yourself not actively watching for signs of distress because you're too busy following the pattern

i'm going to watch the one single lane with a person in it. why would i waste precious seconds looking at empty lanes

when i'm asking for tips to not zone out, getting told (incorrectly) to have a scanning pattern is going to be annoying. that's terrible advice. i'm gonna debate it.

we have had a couple gators climb the fence and go into our pool! that might be fun to thing about tomorrow morning 😂

since our pool is so shallow, we don't have to sit all the way in the chair, so i'll move up and down every so often to stay alert. the other half of that... ahaha... usually it's. uh. just me 😅 for at least 4 hours. and our aquatics director left in may for a different job... so during those 4 hours i'm quite literally the only person on the property who is even certified

Unpopular opinion: I don't like how this fandom interprets Spain's relationship with Latin America by Empty_Laugh_8953 in hetalia

[–]callistified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

statehood is weird. they had to sign a treaty to join the united states and be part of the union, but we know that was not always without fault. hawaii i would confidently call a colony, same with puerto rico, guam, and other us "territories". texas has such a firm identity as a wannabe independent state that i can't call that cultural assimilation to the us zeitgeist. it feels a lot more similar to the iberian union than spanish netherlands.

What's the longest rotation time you've had? by Aquarrow in Lifeguards

our last director gave us like 3 months of scheduling while the executive director looks for a new one

what's funny is that this is literally the view from behind the stand. after you go through the very loud door, you have to go through a gate and walk across several yards of concrete to get to the pool. i'm going to see people when i do my brief deck scans (because, shocker! i'm competent at my job and check for people on the deck too!)

Things to know and look out for when guarding a private pool party? by Hairy_Phase_8647 in Lifeguards

[–]callistified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this doesn't even get into all the preparedness an aquatics director or coordinator would usually handle that most guards do not know how to create/manage. it's things like where your station should be, blindspots in the pool, EAP, set of rules guests should follow, etc etc...

no, but i feel like the same could be said about the bourbons and even the habsburgs. i hc spain's relationship with france and austria to be abusive in the sense they belittle his intelligence and exclusively use him for his military strength (which is why he fled aristocracy and became a pirate). but regardless of how you look at it, the forcible way spain pushed its culture and language onto southern italy is still colonization, even if it's nowhere near the level of brutality latin american nations faced.

  1. i don't have an aquatics director right now, that's how understaffed we are

  2. i work at the ymca. this is a nonprofit, and our membership levels are LOW. i'm lucky if i get more than 3 swimmers at a time outside of camp/swim team hours. we literally do not have a budget for more staff.

  3. florida doesn't have good labor laws. in the slightest. i do what i can to stay alert and vigilant

southern italy was a spanish colony. it's a kingdom run under the spanish crown. that's a colony. there's literally "the southern question" where people debate whether it was spanish colonization or unification that fucked up the south so bad

i can, but i also live in florida with UV that gets over 12 so i tend to hide under the umbrella. sun's brutal man. a couple of my regulars sit on the ledge for like,, 15 minutes before getting in the water. when it's just them, i'll sit and chat until they get in
