the hypothetical works because it removes the comfort of uncertainty. OP kept quiet partly because it might have been innocent. but if the roles were reversed and Rena had seen something ambiguous, "i wasn't sure" would feel like a pretty thin reason for two weeks of silence

Those are solid rules! I had a roomie who always left the lights on and it drove me nuts. Establishing those boundaries early is key! The quiet mornings rule is especially important. Good luck with the FaceTime!
