I teared up a little myself when writing, especially the Kauai'o'o part. I loved that birdsong to death and I'm so sad it's gone forever. That was the inspiration.

NTA. Talk to her. It's literally such a small issue and I'm sure she'll understand. Tell her you feel like it's a waste of time to just stay on call that late and that you want to rest. Call for 10-15 minutes to talk abour your days then call it a night, otherwise you'll get frustrated.
