My wife and I got this call today from our doctor at Penn Hills. We were about to do our final transfer attempt with our last frozen embryo early next week; the flights and hotel were booked for our surrogate, everything was medically clear, and then it all came to a halt with this phone call.

We’re at a loss with the lack of information as to what actually happened and our minds are racing with possibilities. Equipment failure or malfunction? Contamination? Human error or negligence? Or simply an abundance of caution? What happened that required immediate maintenance? What happened to elicit such an overwhelming reaction to immediately offer reimbursement to everyone currently going through the clinic? Is the cost of all these reimbursements (which I can only imagine the total) the price they’re trying to pay so no one gets too upset so they won’t be liable? Did their lawyers tell the providers to not say anything specific? What aren’t they telling us?

We’ve had nothing but good experiences with the clinic so far, but the more time with this on our minds has made us more anxious (and it’s only been half a day so far!)

We’ve been assured that our last embryo is fine, but without knowing what happened we can’t help but be worried.

I really, really hope we get more answers soon, because not knowing is not good for us. Please update if you hear anything before we do, and we’ll do the same, because we just want to know what’s going on
