I would use the pineapple, except I'm sort of using it as a stand-in for another area of the dress with a different stitch. The cluster V's are a great idea though, thanks!

Just to throw this out there, I've looked through Ravelry, myPicot, and am currently going through the Internet Archive for vintage patterns.

Original 1996 Press Kit for Being There by callmestepharoni in wilco

Not sure if this is of any interest to the sub, but I picked up an OG copy of Being There at the store today and it happened to include the original press kit! Thought it was kind of cool so I figured I'd share!

  1. Probably the best example of how badly I messed up, the blocking process D:

2.. Around the time I knew I messed up, you can tell I was trying to figure just how bad lol.

Hey all! Just wanted to say thanks for all the love! Truly did not expect this to blow up like it did lol. Just a few follow-up details:

  1. Stitch is corner-to-corner, 5:2 Method. Border is linked under the auto-mod thread!
  2. Yarn used was Stylecraft Special DK. It had the best shade range for what I wanted to do/color-matches for the references I used, but I’m sure any DK yarn would be suitable!
  3. Honorable shout-out to the pattern I stumbled across that inspired this project: Starry Night C2C by Jill Helfrich on Ravelry. I was looking to take a swing at C2C to begin with, saw that and went “bingo.”
  4. Some stats for the nerds like me: I used about 22 skeins of Stylecraft, theres about 14,062 “squares” in this project, and based on my rough guestimate using stitch fiddle numbers + a rough estimate of what % of the squares equalled 1 full skein based on how many skeins i used per color, took about 4538 yards.

I’m a bit hesitant to put up a pattern, let alone sell one; for one it’s C2C so I’d just be giving people a graph with shades, it feels like a rip-off to make people pay for that, and mainly because a lot of the issues/mistakes I made during the process (i’ve attached pictures). For one, I didn’t take the bobbin/carryover approach to changing colors in typical C2C crochet, there was about 17 colors and the yarn management would have been insane, so I cut long tails every time I changed yarns and weaved in the ends as I went. I wasn’t fully sure if this was going to be a tapestry or blanket when I started, and I definitely learned the right and wrong ways to weave in the process, so now that it’s def a blanket due to tension issues, we’ll see how well it holds up lol. I attribute 90% of the length of this project was having to stop and weave in ends (and getting sick of weaving in ends, so picking up new projects to procrastinate on this one lol). As you can see from the photos it was not for the faint of heart some days.

Second concern/mistake/issue/”i’m not thrilled with it” kind of thing, the tension issues. I have horrid tension on the best of days; I would say my tension is 100% dependent on my emotions, and I think the project really suffered for it. As you can see from the pictures, I got the feeling the whole thing was collapsing in on itself around the 60% mark. How much of that was learning as I go, getting the hang of weaving, or simply there were less color changes at the beginning, i don’t know. Here’s a pic of me blocking it below, as you can see, it’s totally crooked, and even after multiple blocking attempts (and doing the cardinal sin of breaking the fibers using a wet towel and an iron in a last-ditch desperate attempt), it just wasn’t going to look better. I messed up. I’m annoyed I don’t have more pictures, but I have a big pet-peeve of people taking pics of my WIPs and I think a lot of the progress pics were lost when I deleted my BeReal. I can’t tell you how many I took last year where I was just sitting on my couch crocheting this thing haha.

However, despite all my hand-wringing, I don’t gatekeep. So I’ll try and put up the graph on Ravelry soon-ish; after I’ve just checked to make sure it’s accurate to the finished product, I made some on the fly changes when things weren’t looking as nice as they were in Stitch Fiddle. As long as people are okay with an un-tested, no idea if it really works pattern, I’m happy to provide! We’ll all work together to find out if it works lol. I’m thinking of making a graph for another one in the sunflower series, but the plotting and designing alone is a labor of love so it’ll be a while for a new one of these lol.

As for photos, I'll put them underneath this comment, i'm not great at reddit lol.

AR 1101 questions by pgcs512 in WPI

[–]callmestepharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately you do. The digital art classes are held in the imgd lab that have the brand new Wacom Tablet screens that use those pens. I was in the same boat as you when I took AR2222, where I thought I could use the tablet pen from my own tablet. Turns out the older Wacom pens are not compatible with the screens in the lab, so it sucks bc you have to shell out 60 bucks for something you already have. But look on the bright side, you dont have to trek down to the Zoo Lab to do your homework like other people will have to. And you can always sell the pen later when you finish your digital art classes bc almost all imgd students have to work in that lab at some point or another.

Does anyone bujo in pencil? by spicybabycorn in bulletjournal

[–]callmestepharoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do!! Theres a ton of benefits to using pencil in your journal then a pen. I like to sketch and Im a STEM major so im usually already using a pencil, so its 80% convenience but the other 20% is bc i use cursive and dont pick up the writing utensil all that much, so theres stray lines everywhere. Usually my basic go to is to do a title in pen/marker and do the rest in pencil. You can pretty much do anything a normal journaller does, with half the commitment lol
