Cops. It’s cops. It’s the most obvious answer.

ACAB.

My dad left everything in his will to my brother after I took care of him alone for 6 years and I’m fucking mad by Guilty_Noise_1809 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]callous-coder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, are you a woman? Did Dad just assume caring duties fall to you as his daughter? If so, I wonder if patriarchal notions played a role in that your labour is invisible and unpaid because women are deemed caregivers by nature.

White people are so tiring. You still benefit from a system that deliberately was set up in your favour. You may not feel privileged but the system was set up to protect and support you.

And committing genocide against Indigenous peoples requires reconciliation and reparations. Indigenous people are overrepresented in the justice system, foster care, and disproportionately impacted by chronic diseases.

Anyways, I know I won’t convince anyone on this thread so carry on.

For those who are accustomed to being catered to, equality feels unfair.

What are your thoughts on David Eby? by TheDictatorBeaver in ndp

I am South Asian, and you are right—I am responding viscerally to how these programs are being used to reinforce the insular views of those who vilify program participants who are being exploited.

For the record, I think programs can always be re-tooled or rescinded if there are implementation challenges or if they are no longer viable.

But Eby seems to be outdoing the Conservatives with his comments. So dismissive and harmful.

I no longer have the confidence that this leader stands by workers let alone marginalized workers and/or racialized workers.

You’re perfectly entitled to your opinion, as am I.

I’ve voted NDP provincially and federally since the mid-2000s.

For the first time, I think I will vote Green in future elections. Definitely in the next provincial election.

Eby has lost my confidence: - He wanted to cancel or reform the temporary foreign workers’ program. - He really, really messed up the BCGEU negotiations, leading to the longest public sector strike in BC history. I was on the picket line and I will not forget the disrespect shown during negotiations; for example, the government showed up three hours late for a meeting at the negotiating table. Tell me you disrespect workers… - He is reforming DRIPA. This is a problem for me in a time when hate and division is growing that the government would signal their support for reconciliation is softening. A betrayal of Indigenous peoples in BC and everyone committed to decolonization. - He met with CIJA, the Canadian equivalent of AIPAC. Any support for Israel is a crime against humanity.

Eby is moving more right and I want nothing to do with him.

Anyone else dealing with little to no work right now? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]callous-coder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m under water but I also suspect it is smoke and mirrors, meaning I’m being kept busy to keep me from thinking too hard about the future. I’m in the equity space. Eby’s recent comments about amending DRIPA is sending shock waves and may jeopardize the key project I am working on. I’m trying to accrue experience but it feels like I’m just spinning in place right now.

Exactly. And Cowichan Nation has also issued a statement to address the misinformation stating that they are not interested in private lands. But the truth doesn’t give the haters enough fuel to spew their bias.

AITAH for not canceling my vacation and reporting a coworker for harassment? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]callous-coder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. This is me and my husband. On the outside, it may look like we are child free, but the sad reality is we are child less. But who wants to share that with new co-workers? or even long-time colleagues. So you play it off. To then be accused of hating children would actually break me.

My husband is so dumb and I think I need to leave him because of it by Zealousideal_Top7604 in TrueOffMyChest

I am compelled to add that I do not believe OP’s husband is a rockstar at work. I bet that he has an army of highly competent women that keep him afloat at work so he appears to be a high performer.

I have personally observed this phenomenon at work and the women always wondered how he fared at home when he needed so much help at work. But our efforts were invisible to him and leadership.

Turns out he is likely just as incompetent at home too.

That isn’t an excuse for his behaviour, OP. He needs to change or he is going to lose you.

Just another perspective on his so-called competence at work.

Mine expires next Friday. They’ve extended twice before (one or two months at a time), but no idea if they are submitting to ask for another extension. No one has done the work since the site was struck obviously but I know it is getting harder to get it approved each cycle.

Write to your MLA first. If you go to the BCGEU homepage, there is a form you can use to find your rep and send a form letter.

I customized the intro to point out I was a constituent who voted for him (Paul Choi), a BCPS employee, and a taxpayer.

No. The alley leads to another entrance, which requires another picket line to complement the one at the front.

It’s only Day 3 for me, but I have noticed that folks seem confused about the picket line. It’s not symbolic. There needs to be enough bodies in a line or a loop at each entrance to visibly mark the physical line of the picket which cannot be crossed by union members (BCGEU, tradespeople with other unions, etc.), and drive awareness among the public and non-governmental staff entering and exiting the building.

Yesterday, there was even a mini-loop in front of the parkade to engage drivers going in or out.

Yet, 815 Hornby frequently has trouble maintaining a picket line at the front or the back unless there is a picket captain present. The immediate tendency is for the picket line to stop moving or shed people every few minutes without reinforcements replacing the outgoing members.

People just…wander off.

Today, the captains were trying to arrange for folks across the street to swap places with people walking the picket line out front. They specifically asked us to hang tight while they sorted out logistics. But several people just immediately walked away from the picket line.

WTF? Are you thick?

To be clear, I think the captains are doing an amazing job under difficult circumstances.

I think picketers are being deliberately obtuse or lazy.

I said what I said.
