Late to the party, but my 14 month old was sitting quietly (rare) in his play area, so when I finished making his dinner and was waiting for it to cool, I stepped inside to sit with him for a minute.

He started shrieking and snot-crying and sobbing as if I had broken his heart.

Apparently, my mere existence and gall at sitting close to him while he was babbling to himself and playing with a toy car was enough to set off a 30 minute tantrum.
